There is one particular club Dave Wood did - courtesy of Ironmaster Bob, and the "Niles Hoard".

To my knowledge, It's the only LH 1958 MacGregor SEOM M80W persimmon 3 wood...

with a 5 screw butterfly soleplate...

These photos are also on Dave's website...

According to Roger Cleveland- "MacGregor exclusively used the sweepback jig for their LH persimmon woods...

This LH MacGregor persimmon wood with a butterfly soleplate does not exist- it is why our Cleveland LH TC-15 model will have a sweepback soleplate."

Even if the RH TC-15 model...has a butterfly soleplate?

..at least Cleveland supplied the drill-thru hosel...

..

Luv the flat finish, you can see more detail, than those super glossy polyurethane finishes that yellow.

I know a few of us had bids on that one. I was hoping to get a second Augustian for my collection but went past my financial comfort zone. Good to see it go for so much though, makes mine worth that much more!

Any idea who won it?

CC

No, I was hoping to find out if anyone knew.

I am more than happy with The Masters & Jumbo I acquired from you - thanks!

Agree, what I like about TStephens collection they are all in beautiful condition

They are.

I like to think that lurking just out of shot there is a nasty, deep-faced "Dorian Gray" driver - taking hits on behalf of the rest of the team and wearing its scars with pride.

Actually it's the middle one with the heavy white face lines.

My "Dorian Gray" has carbon power on lower toe area and a Brunswick tour shaft. Maybe I'll tee it up this weekend. It's been a couple of years since I last hit. It has a suspicious looking LFF stamp on it too. Also it has a shallow u-shape not so tight grain. It is quite the character just not roughed up. This LFF might be the best persimmon driver of a couple hundred I've hit over the years.

The Wood Bros carry bags are much more common, though scarce - I know of 3 versions

Tour bags are quite rare - 2 versions were designed - a black and a white.

Dave Wood told me that the first tour bag was black with gold lettering and hurriedly conceived. He didn't like it, so replaced it with the redesigned white model.

Dr.

Apparently Dave Wood is now looking for a few specific Texans for some clients....the LH model is among them.

Texsport would know for sure.

Good Luck.

Are you saying there are actions I could take beyond searching ebay with my fingers crossed?

Thanks for your posts,

Matt

Dave Wood's website has contact info.

davewoodarts.com

Dave is currently vacationing and may take a little while to answer inquiries, but he is aware of a huge nation of Wood Bros fans and might be able to

advise you.

Be aware that there are scarce LH quantities of all 3 Wood

Bros models - Texan, Corker, and Kool Cat.

A search on WRX and at least one other site will reveal photos of the 3 versions I have posted.

Good luck!

Dr-

Lets try this again. Now that we've cleaned out our file of photos...

The LH Texan is on the left....

Beautiful! Thanks for the pic. That would be my grail driver. Can’t imagine I’d ever play another one once that made it in my bag. Till then I’ll keep the crack of the bat alive with my Cleveland Classic and my 60’s Mac keyhole.

A few details/comments on the LH Wood Bros drivers-

- Corker and Kool Cat both have "Cork Filled" decal on toes.

- this Corker driver is a later model - the original Corker had an embossed cork popping up above the Corker name and a triangular shield, included on the sole + the original sole plate was shaped like the Kool Cat sole plate pictured here. Modifications were made to the Corker when the Kool Cat was released - featuring the trimmed down version of sole plate seen on my pictured, later Corker example.

- this Texan has a Wood Bros rarity, a custom Red/White/Red fiber Eye-O-Matic style insert -- generally only installed in clubs made for professional players. I have the same type R/W/R insert in a fairway wood made for PGA player George Burns., a close friend of Dave Wood.

- Note the head size increase from Texan to Kool Cat. Dave Wood was reacting to the introduction of larger headed metal woods in the early 1990s.
