Just to keep all of you updated, I have received offers on a few clubs (The Masters, Jacobsen AA, Trevino Texan and Aussie). I have been asked about some others too.

 

Btw, not selling The Augustian. Considering selling my Lefty Texan but not sure yet..

WYNNER is just over 1 5/8" deep. No shaft band on the aluminum shafted Texan however seems more stiff than anything.

I have an All-American that I got on a whim off eBay about a decade ago. It's stamped "TOUR" on the hosel, I guess Dave Wood said it's not supposed to be. But at any rate it swings nice. :)

 

Also have a Texan, but nothing famous or rare like you guys have. I enjoy the photos.

I was reading some old posts and especially the question about which company had the most persimmon clubs in play in the 80s.

 

I say clearly MacGregor.

 

But, another point worth mentioning is that players often had custom clubs made with an installed sole plate from the company they were contracted to - added to fulfill contract obligations and fool Tour club checkers at the 1st tee of tournaments.

 

I personally saw several Tour pros' drivers in Dave Wood's shop being built this way - Wood Bros oil hardened premium persimmon with another company's sole plate - mostly before Dave introduced his Texan driver.

 

Additionally, Dave Wood famously modified MacGregor original drivers to meet both Ben Crenshaw's and Greg Norman's specs. These clubs both were used to win majors. And, of course, as previously discussed, Dave repaired Ben Hogan's personal modifications to his MacGregor driver in his Humble,Texas shop.

Dave Wood recently told me this October will be his 50th anniversary of rebuilding- refinishing golf clubs. His 1st was when he was in High School (1968) when he wanted a better driver.

You would have to talk to Dave about that. Each project is different. He has done a few drivers for me in the past but it’s been like 5 years. His refinish work is true art work.

My favorite driver and fairway wood on the planet are the only 2 clubs Dave did his magic on for me.

There is one particular club Dave Wood did - courtesy of Ironmaster Bob, and the "Niles Hoard".

 

To my knowledge, It's the only LH 1958 MacGregor SEOM M80W persimmon 3 wood...

 

 

 

with a 5 screw butterfly soleplate...

According to Roger Cleveland- "MacGregor exclusively used the sweepback jig for their LH persimmon woods...

 

This LH MacGregor persimmon wood with a butterfly soleplate does not exist- it is why our Cleveland LH TC-15 model will have a sweepback soleplate."

 

Even if the RH TC-15 model...has a butterfly soleplate?

 

..at least Cleveland supplied the drill-thru hosel...

You are all welcome! Bittersweet letting them go but for the most part happy that they stayed in the family here.

 

I still have some other WB unique treasures and time will tell if I rebuild, keep or sell.
