Poll: 3 Iron or 3 Hybrid?

Which one do you carry?

Just curious as to how many of us still carry the 3 iron instead of a 3 hybrid.

I actually carry both, in a sense. I play my normal 3 iron and i have an adams idea-3 iron hybrid. Only thing is Adams so cleverly made the 3 iron hybrid to play as strong/stronger than a 2 iron but technically i have both.17* is definately not a 3 iron.

I carry a 2h and 4h, and will put in a 3 iron occasionally if swinging well or if there are lots of trees.

 

for some reason, I like the 3i out of the rough, and for punches and low-running shots. I also use it if I need to hit a big cut shot to escape from trouble off a bad drive to the right.

 

Can't hit it off the fairway or the tee to save my life, though.

I used to carry just the TM rescue 3, but I have recently replaced it with my three iron. I found the rescue to ballon alot and I just liked the idea of having the 3 iron for punches.

lol.. i guess its an iron.. the slinshot might as well be considered and iron-like hybrid. 220 straight down the middle when i need to hit a fw.

I wanted to hit better shots from 3I distance, so I got a Airmuscle...mission accomplished.

I found a hybrid that I could hit quite high but also keep lower when required, that is when I'm swinging well. It's nice to be able to hit a hybrid 220 into a green and have it hold withing 3 to 10 feet if the greens are not too hard. I just couldn't accomplish that with a 3 iron.

personally I do not like the Hybrids. Got me a TM 4 wood, pure.

Carry a 3 iron now, but will switch to a rescue mid 22* shortly.

Carry two hybrids but my new J33CBs are so sweet I am ordering a 3 and 4 iron! My hybrids are now very sweet w/ ne IRODs, so I am interested to see what I will settle on.

Both, my 3 iron is 22*, and my 20* 3hybrid goes a 2 iron distance.

I haven't carried a 3 iron in 9 or 10 years. For a part of that time, I packed a 7 wood with which I developed the ability to hit a high cut and a stinger low draw along with a stock high relatively straight shot.

 

I have switched to 21/22* hybrids and rebuilt the shot shape collection. The hybrid is slightly shorter than the 7 wood. but is perfect for those 205-220 par 3's. I can still hit a 4 iron about 200, so for now I am not expecting to go to higher lofted hybrid and hit a 3 wood 235-240 so I see no need for a 18* hybrid.

... unfortuneatly for the better player, oems put lighter softer tipped shafts in hybrids that help get the ball in the air. while this is great for a 5 wood/2 iron replacement at 17-19*, it is less than ideal for 3/4 iron replacements with lofts in the 20-24* range. if you are thinking of replacing a 3/4i with a hybrid, use the exact same shaft from those irons!!! i have two A2's with my 3/4 iron MLTi 105gm shafts installed, with a higher bend point that keeps the ball on a lower trajectory. i can also play knockdowns with ease. i could not do that with a typical lighter more flexible hybrid shaft.

 

... shafted properly, hybrids can be the equal to an iron, just more forgiving and versatile.

the 3h makes a lot of sense in it is easier to hit, but will produce a few hot shots. it is longer than my 3i, but not as long a my 5wood. i feel like i have created an unwanted yardage gap and not helped my bag overall.

Currently carry a 3 iron but I could see that changes during the upcoming offseason.

I carry a 3 iron.

 

And alternate a 17* and 19* Hybrid, but even the 19* is longer than the 3 iron, it is more like a 2 iron for distance.

I just bought a Ping G5 hybrid 19* and pulled my 3 iron. So far I really like this G5 hybrid.

You need a "both" category.

Just yesterday I was able to hit a bullet with my 3-iron into the wind that ran up on the green. My 3 hybrid would have probably ballooned in those conditions. I feel both have their places in the bag but I use the hybrid more often than the iron.

There is no day that I see in the near future where I will carry a hybrid. I love hitting 3 irons and I don't see any reason to ever pull it from my bag..

I currently carry a 3i but I would really like to put a hybrid into play. I don't like hitting 3i into long par 3's, its too unpredictable with the bounce and roll. I have been having trouble finding a hybrid that flies high, doesn't hook, and is equally good off the tee and grass.
