I truly don't understand this. Why does the fact that they are forged in Japan make them better? So you are saying that if i have a set that has a sole grind that doesn't work for my swing, BUT they are forged in Japan, that makes them better? I've played the J33s (combo, blade and CB), MP57 and honestly couldn't tell any quality differences (playability yes) from the Wishons I've played. The differences were in the head/sole design and not in the location of the forging.

To the OP, if you are willing to try components, hard to beat the Wishon 555C for a players type cavity or the 560MC for a low offset, extremely forgiving cavity. Both have very good sole designs with blunted leading edges. I think the most import thing is to find the sole design that works for your swing and the offset/head shape that you like and match to a shaft that fits you.

Depends what you're looking for in your irons.

If you want a great set of clubs that are forgiving, but look great at address my recommendation is the MP-53's.

If you want a more blade like feel with some forgiveness, Nike VR Split Cavities are an absolute pleasure to hit. Even the VR Pro combo's are a great set to grow into since not many mid handicappers can really hit a blade 4 or 5 iron very well.

i bought some precept tour premiums for $150. id suggest getting the best iron you can find for the least amount of money. forged/cast, whatever. if you can hit it near the green id go with it. do you really think the fact your irons are korean forged instead of japanese forged kept you from shooting under par? me either.

Well I have to make note of the Mizuno MP-52 Forged Cavity Back(DGR300) that I currently game. The MP-52 irons feel absolutely stunning with playable forgiveness. I am not an amazing ball striker, I miss shots close to the heel at times, I have an 8 HDCP and these irons always feel excellent. When these irons are pured the sound, feel and results are very close to perfection for a game enhancing forged muscle/cavity back. If I were to put the feeling of this into words it would be like "smashing an egg filled with melted butter". The off center misses are always forgiving with surplus feel allowing me to know where and how severe the miss was before you even see the ball launching. If you're playing a cast set of cavity backs you are severely missing out on what the game of golf actually feels like. The MP-52 are a near perfect combination of a players' iron and forgiveness on miss-hits. The only thing I would consider replacing my MP-52's with would be a set of MIURA CB-501's.

It's not the location of the forging it's overall process and the raw materials used. The Epon factory is the most modern forging house in the world with the quality being second to none. Epon does work for many brands including Callaway and Bridgestone, Miura has done work for TM, Nike etc. Some of the Taylormade 300 forged were done by Miura as well as some of the Nike split cavitys. I have hit the Wishons and KZG's and both are very good clubs and I do agree with you on finding the right sole design and correct head to be fit for you but Miura and Epon do make different designs. I Judge a forged iron by Material, Quality, looks and feel. If you have hit a Miura or Epon then you know what I'm talikng about.

mp32.. easiest to hit blades, if you're not comfortable get the mp60. These irons will take you a long way.
I just returned my 32s to my bag after mostly playing MP57s for a year or so. You simply cannot beat the feel / forgiveness / look of the 32s IMHO. I'm actually hitting the ball better and my accuracy has improved.

You are all wrong. Just kidding. Gotta throw in Mizuno MP-62's which I currently game. For something a little off the beaten path, I have gamed Nakashima NP1's before and they were awesome as well.
+1 a little surprised that it took 2 pages until the 62's were brought up! 09 x-forged and cobra cb's can't be beat as well

I still think that the TM X-300 FCI was the best cavity back of the last 10 years. It had a fairly compact head shape, a very modest top line, significant weight moved to the perimeter, and they had excellent feel..much better, much crisper than the 300 Forged. This is one of those irons that I wish TM had decided to offer year in and year out, like a Ping classic model, to players. It was just a great iron.
Agreed the FCI were a great iron. Personally, preferred those over the 300. TM should bring those back.

I've tried them all (even to this day) and imo, the Mizuno T-Zoid CompEZ are still hands down the best Mizuno GI iron has made to date and can be had for cheap if you can find a set. Outstanding forgiveness, feel and workablility. More of a 'mid-size' by todays standard. The stock shafts were terrible, but reshafted with DG's, they absolutely come to life. The CompEZ also had one of the best marketing tags of all time... "Welcome to the way golf should feel."

As for Quality Component companies, the Wishon 555 for a standard size and 560 for OS are incredibly nice irons and certainly worth a try. The KZG Forged II or Evolution are another, as well as Nakashima.

Lots of options out there. Good luck with your search!
