The tool Ping uses to adjust the lie/loft of the club fits into the notch.

It kind of surprises me that these irons haven't received better reviews. I would have thought Ping would have made sure these were a home run.
Seems to me that they have gotten very good reviews save for one thing the whining about price.

i hit some at edwin watts a couple weeks ago. I dont know if it was the differents shafts i was flying a 7 iron 178 consistently and 172 on a toe hit so than i thought well s*** i better hit the i15 before i get to excited and well the ones that i hit good with the i15 with awt shaft were only flying 173 average and toe hits 163 so than i thought well better hit the s56 before i drop money that you would think would be for an engagement ring!!! So i put the s series in my hand with the kbs tours and i thought that it was nice and easy to hit but still not averaging 178 and yes i know there is a difference in lofts but doesnt ping factor that in so that you hit all there irons around the same yardage just different traj??? Anyways waaaabammmm bought the ansers 5-pw with x100 shafts and cant wait to get these pups in the mail tomorrow

I have them both,
The S56 and Anser are not really comparable, just 2 different clubs.. I love the looks, feel, and workability of the S56, but also like the forgiveness and distance of the anser. I am constantly 5-7 yards longer with the anser which was exactly the same as the i15. As I play on a longer course, I have stuck with the anser for now, but ask again in a few months.

Yep... I always pick my irons sets based on what the top players in the world are playing. :)

I play the best iron for my swing, feel, look at address... I could care less what some guys is getting paid to put in his bag.

How did you know that those shafts were available? I did not see those on the web site, or did I just miss those?
You must have missed them because they're on the Ping custom options page that was last revised on February 15th. I liked the specs of the shafts so I decided to go ahead and order them. However, I've never hit them before so I hope I didn't make a mistake.

We'll see soon!!!

May I ask....what is that notch on the heel of the hosel on most (all?) Ping irons?
The tool Ping uses to adjust the lie/loft of the club fits into the notch.
And by removing the metal from the bottom of the hosel they were able to move that weighting more to the sole of the club for a better CG and forgiveness.

Marty was the designer of the Anser iron, cool thing is he is one hell of a player here in AZ... qualified to play in the Las Vegas Shriners. played his Anser irons of course. Also I pretty sure he was the designer of PINGs first hybrids.

Just got back from Fla. golf trip where i had a chance to hit my freinds Ansers against my i15s. Both sets had Nippon 950s green dot. After hitting both irons on the range every morning and playing both sets 36 holes a day for 5 days my friend and i both could not tell the difference between them. Im staying with the i15s.

I am continuing to find these heads softer and softer. As I said in the beginning they are close to AP2 type feel. I have played them a handful of times this year and Love them.

We saw them in a few PGA Tour gags and last week we spotted them on the Nationwide tour also. I just looked in the pics and could not find the pic. I was going to bring it in here for you all to see.

I think Tim Herron (spelling?) plays these if it wasn't called out. Nice looking irons for sure. If they are like the AP2's, PING has done very well.

I just ordered a mix set of i15's to mess around with my full set of S56's. I need the extra forgiveness in the spring and always loved hitting the i15 7 iron out of the demo cart.

I have to agree Richard.

I know feel is subjective but I find it hard to believe that anyone hitting these and the i15's find them similar as it relates to feel. The Anser irons are much softer IMHO.

So far, I've only had one range session and one time on the course with them but they are very, very soft.
