Can someone clue me in to teryllium?

Splitter

Recommended Posts

OK, lame question of the day but I can't find an answer and am curious.

Scotty has "teryllium" inserts. Described as a "copper alloy blend of 12 metals".

But as far as I can tell from searching the web, unlike copper no one sells bars or sheets of "Teryllium".

So, is Teryllium Scottys name for some common brand of Copper Alloy? Does anyone know what it actually is?

Thanks!

Marketing brand. Not a real metal.

The chemical symbol he uses TeI3 is actually the chemical symbol for tellurium tri-iodide. Tellurium is used in copper and lead production to improve durability and strength as well as reduce corrossion. I would imagine that his name for the material was derived from that in some way. TeI3 only exists in molten form, where it becomes a conductor. When added to most metals it also makes them malleable.

It's a copper alloy that contains Scottys "magic dust". :cheesy:
Ha!

I've been looking for two days and can't find a copper with that many extra metals in it. Most copper only has a few other metals in it. It's *almost* got me believing he might have some sort of copper bars made with additives, but I just can't believe he would spend the kind of money that' would be required just to have a marketing term. It's got to be some sort of off the shelf copper I haven't found yet.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think his special sauce is making miracle bars, I'm just curious and want to figure out what it really is. Anyone good friends with Bob B? Since he did the first ones he probably knows. :-)

The weight sounds reasonable. Another I've read is that copper in some uses needs some extras to keep corrosion properties down.

But, do you know where to find this mystery copper or what it's real name is?

Scotty has a patent on it along with another individual you can find it in the patent system if you run a search.

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Sorry, no offense meant. I just didn't want to be the guy to ask about both.

Good thing Scotty didn't go with G-teryllium for the insert. :black eye:

I think he meant he has a patent on the putter along with the guy from BOS, not Teryllium itself.

yah. he has a design patent with that guy on just the physical appearance of the putter, not the material that it's made out of.

My chemistry knowledge tells me the only substance that fits is Copper Alloy 145

COPPER ALLOY 145 BAR STOCK (contains copper, gold, tellurium, phosphorus)

Often this material is used in cutting/welding tips.... so imagine some was lying around Scottys shop, and maybe he decided to use it as an insert?
It also has a high machinability rating- also starting to make sense?

It can be bought from places just like this http://kmac-distribu...5-bar-stock.htm
if you want to use it as an insert

I was never here.......

I hate to tell you all.. But your all wrong.. Scotty flew in an alien, he said.. Scotty said ".. I have a ton of this copper and I want to make something special, what can you do?".. The Alien responded ".. give it to me, im going to make this so special no one can find and it will be pure magic.."

A few moments later.. "Here it is Scotty, its magic.. and go tell ur.." Scotty interrupted, ".. Tell my customers what?".. The Alien responded " I, um.......... "... Scotty said I got it!

He built the housing for the new putter, inserted this magic alien enhanced metal and decided to call it .."Tell Ur I Um... Well Tellurium, that's it!!!!" The birth of magic ..

HAHA.. sorry no one is going to figure out through the marketing, engineering, and trademarks..
