Hate to be that guy, but can anyone offer me some knowledge on how to set up a round at Scioto? I've got a relative in Columbus and he's been dying to play. I'm out of state, so my network is quite small in Ohio. I'm a member at a semi-private in Michigan and I could arrange a round there for the favor of an intro...

Good luck, unless you're a member at a private club of stature; and even then it's not a sure shot.

You're going to have to get lucky and have someone on this site that's a member see your post and offer an invite. Dont hold your breath.

Both of these, more or less. You'll probably have better luck with the former - if you have a connection at a comparable upper-tier club (Oakland Hills, etc.) then the pro there may be able to call and line up a round for you on behalf of that member. Said member would likely have to play with you, however you probably will NOT have to be accompanied by an actual Scioto member (which surprised me TBH). PM for additional details re: cost, etc.

Well every driving range and practice area within 20 minute drive is now under water. Cincinnati will need a week or two to dry out. I’m lucky enough to live above the flood zone so it could be worse. Anyone know of any ranges or practice areas that are safe in Cincinnati?

Went to Etter's today in Evendale/Reading and it was wet but matts were open. Was a Little Miami in Newtown on Tuesday for the first range session of the year for me and it was flooded bad. From the looks of it, I didn't think they would even be open but they were. Can't imagine how much worse it would be now after all the additional rain and can't imagine they would be open now. That places floods every year but now its just part of the river. .

Ready to start the season soon but my friends aren't die hards so not sure I can talk them into golf quite yet.

World of Sports at the Golf Ranch in Florence, Ky are both open. Miles of Golf is open. I was at Miles for a demo on Sat and Golf Ranch today. I hoping to get out somewhere next weekend even if it means driving to Lexington.

Well, little Miami is currently underwater. If anyone has ever been there the range flags are barely visible. The entire course could be under water by tomorrow. Reeves at Lunkin just as bad. I live two minutes from both so I’m going to have to check out etters that’s not too far. Miles of golf is too far for after work, weekends I’d have to schedule the 35 minutes out there.

Worst case, spring break is only two weeks away.

Miles of golf estimates over 10k in balls are plugged on the range. Its a mess. Open, but a mess.

I was wondering about that when I was there about a week ago, before we got 5 more inches of rain. That's a ton of golf balls.

Have they gotten new golf balls yet? I havent been there in a couple years, but last time I went, some of the balls were actually bald.

I know nothing about Ohio golf but will be visiting this summer for two weeks. I will be east side of Columbus, and was wondering what the best public choices would be. Money and distance isn't really an issue, just don't want to be board. I'll be taking my 10 year old son with me. We enjoy elevation changes, and scenic courses, not boring classic courses that just provide challenges. Thanks for input!!

Virtues is one of Ohio’s top rated public courses. I played it last year and loved it. You should also look into Cumberland Trail... Haven’t golfed yet, but it’s definitely on my list. I live near Cleveland, so don’t get down to Columbus area too often.

Cumberland Trails goes through a neighborhood on a lot of holes. I would not recommend based on what he is looking for.

I still enjoy it occasionally but not for views or elevation changes.

Virtues is the 100% no brainer choice in my opinion.

If you are here for 2 weeks I would assume you want more than 1 course.

Eaglesticks in Zanesville

Denison Golf Club at Granville (my home course, mostly Donald Ross design, some good views and challenging greens)

Bent Tree in Sunbury

Clover Valley in Johnstown

Foxfire Players Club is south of Columbus.

Cooks Creek is south of Columbus also. (I have not played here but heard good things)

Shaker run is a shell of itself from 10 years ago. They have run it into the ground conditioning wise. Not worth the drive at all to be honest...and I live 30 minutes from the course. I would recommend Cook's creek and Northstar , which are much closer to Columbus, over Shaker Run.

Virtues is really good. Stonelick here in Cincinnati is also very nice but a bit of trek from Columbus. Windy Knoll in Springfield is a fun course and good layout but the conditioning is not what it was a few years back.

Dying to get out. Hope the sun comes out and the wind blows tomorrow to dry Cincy out some before the weekend.

I'm the same way just dying to get out. Had my buddy talked into a Sunday afternoon round but now it looks like he is going to back out. Probably will just end up going to the range.

As an FYI, I have found Sharon Woods drains very well compared to other courses I have played. Might be a good destination for a weekend round if your are concerned about water being an issue. Good luck.

Any Cincinnati people get out this weekend? Curious if anyone enjoyed this beautiful cool weekend. My one month old daughter is still working on her grip so maybe next weekend we can swing a club.

Yeah I got out both days, it was a great weekend.

I am not. I am a teacher and semi-retired football coach. But I played soccer for 14 years before i became too big and switched to football!!
