headed to Bastrop to visit the in-laws this weekend. Hoping to get a round in Saturday or Sunday at one of the local courses....any word on if they will be open or not? I know many parts up in the area have gotten 5+ inches of rain with more possible coming today and tomm...

Any particular course you're looking to play? I'll drive by on my way back to LG and scope them out

Pine Forest had standing water on the holes down by the river when I drove by yesterday afternoon. If the weather stays like it is now for the next couple of days, it will be mostly dry by Sunday I'd guess

How does Lions compare to Kizer/Clay as far as conditions right now? I found Kizer to have poor greens and clay to have poor fairways and sufficient greens if you need a baseline.

I keep seeing tons of pub for Lions and people seem to really love that course.

I haven't played Clay in a long time and Kizer in the last 2 months. Played front 9 @ Lions this evening and a couple of the fairways were wet, but it seemed to be fine after all the rain. I was expecting it to be a lot more soggy, but was pleaseantly surprised.

Was also surprised that the twilight rate is $21.. that was what I was used to paying for a Weekend morning round at Lions when I used to play there every week (2006-2010).

Played ColoVista yesterday. Talk about disappointment... Course looked bad. Greens were okay. For two people it cost damn near one hundred bucks. Granted I usually do golf now hotdeals but none worked out for us and our time. I will not pay full price there unless they make some serious changes.... Also worth noting the pro shop no longer sells beer there. That would have been worth knowing before showing up

Vaaler Creek is on top of my list of courses to try out for 2016 (along with the Bandit), but I won't be in town the weekend of the 31st.

The Bandit is a beautiful golf course. Whenever you do get to try it out, I'll be more than happy to join you!

any tips on how to get a discounted rate to play the Bandit? I don't see it on golfnow.com.. do they send out any good specials if you sign up on their email list?

Try Golf18Network.com or teeoff.com

if you've played pine forest, you know #17 is a tough one...200 from the whites...road on the left is ob the entire length of the hole, and it's right next to the hole...you cannot be left at all......bunker in front left of green...if yer to the right of the green the ball rolls all the way down the hill, depending on how close it's mowed...it's an extremely tight tee shot, for sure...in 50 rounds i bet I've driven the green maybe 5 times, it's that nerve racking...in fact, it's so frightening i have laid up numerous times to avoid having a dbl or triple! did i mention the green aint that big?

fortunately, the wind was at our backs, for once...

and i had been using my 16* driver the entire round after #4 due to a bit of loose driving (pulling everything straight left the first 4 holes...) in fact, on #8 i had one of my longest drives ever, and in the fairway, for once...that 16 really is a confidence builder!

anyway, teed it up and took a controlled pass, hitting a high fade that the wind carried just enough to hit just in front of the green, whereupon the pinn gold did it's roll out dance to a center pin, coming to rest about 4 feet short...that was thrilling enough, but i actually made the putt!

believe me, a birdie on that hole is a near miracle!

only pinn gold could have kept me in the round today, and rewarded me with an exciting bird, followed by a par on 18...

the sweet 16 is incredible! and pine forest is a blast!

went 40-40...

I play there a lot - it's across the street from me - whenever it's not crowded because it's good for beginners (I think it's important to have courses like this for beginners and people that want a 1:15 walking round of 9), but on game day weekends and beautiful afternoons that means SLOOOOW. They used to have an all you can play on Thursday's for $12 I think (walking). Not sure if that is still going on. They are really improving the course and starting to charge a bit more, which is relative. I paid $41 for two players and a cart for 9 holes. I don't think it's much more for 18. It's a great walking course so that's your best best on cheap fees.

anyone catch some of the match play action? It was my first time at a PGA event and was awesome to see them so close.. got fist bumps from Ricky and JB Holmes.. my 11 year old got balls from Snedekar and Dufner.. stood withing spitting distance of Jordan while he was teeing from the first tee.. good times. Will try and go for the practice rounds as well next year...

It was awesome. I went to Saturday's matches. Crazy how the sound of Rory, Jason, and koepka's drivers are ridiculous different than the other average distance golfer.

Can't wait for next year and hopefully I'll be going to see the whole field instead of the round of 16 and 8

I'll be catching a round at the bandit on Thursday anytime after 11:30.

I usually golf alone so maybe someone wants to catch a round out there, let me know!

Much better to watch prior to the round of 16.. was less crowded and you get to see a lot more players. Was fun to watch Bubba curve the ball.. and I thought all the players looked much smaller than they do on TV

Yeah definitely will do that next time!

I sat on the driveable 13 and that was fun too.

Oh yeah, my biggest shock was seeing Zach Johnson being taller than Rory. Lol.

we've got room for one more Saturday at Kizer, 10:25, if anyone is interested let me know

FYI, I believe the greens at Kizer were aerated this week.. they moved the AGA tournament to Clay this weekend for that reason.

I can confirm the greens were aerated after seeing a friend post a photo while playing golf there yesterday. Teravista's greens were punched last week too and are still very bumpy. It's that time of year, so friendly reminder to call and ask before booking that tee time.

I volunteered at the match play last weekend and it was a hell of an experience. I worked the shotlink lasers on fairways 5 and 8 on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Volunteering was a great way to get a weeks pass and essentially get inside the ropes. I will definitely be doing it again next year.
