There's no bounce on any of his wedges, especially the 60
I actually think he uses like 12 degrees of bounce on his 60 now. He says that a flop shot should be used with the bounce of the club propelling the ball up.

Johnny Miller got it wronmg again. He was saying Phil was playing an xhot extreme driver. He got one bit right. I would have thought these commentators would be all over the new gear and who is playing it. I thinks its poor form and ignorance that a guy that is really well paid to commentate golf doesn't know the correct name of a major brand newest driver. Anyway Phil is going great guns and thats tops.

Just for what it is worth guys, I don't think Phil plays the Durometer grips. I think they are still New Decades. This pic is from the Players.

When did he switch to the Chrome +?
Really?! I have been wondering about this ball, as well. I play the Hex black, but if the Chrome + is similar I may switch. Cheaper!

You guys want a crazy Phil story?? So last night after the 2nd round was completed Phil contacted Kim Braly and asked him if he could build him a 4 iron to match the set he is playing right now and Kim let him know that he didn't in fact build it but Jerry Hoefling of Cool Clubs had. So, Phil told him to contact him and ask if he could build one for him(this is at about 6:30pm PDT) and he would come out with his jet watch him build it and fly Jerry and the Owner/CEO of Cool Clubs, Mark Timms, back for the weekend of the Open and drop them off on his way back to Cali. They had the jet lined up to get to Scottsdale, but unfortunately Phil couldn't find a pilot to bring them back over night. Unreal...only Phil would be that crazy to fly 2000 miles to PHX and back with the lead in a major.

Because it seems far-fetched. Why would Phil have to watch somebody build a club? And I would think that Kim could certainly do mostly anything by himself.

First of all, you obviously don't have any idea about Kim if you think he could build a pro's set and they would be happy with it. You can believe what you want, but don't sit here and call me a liar. I just thought I would share this story. Believe it or not Jerry has built clubs for a good number of the top players in the world and the set Phil is gaming was built by him.

Master Club Builder. I've seen sets of V2 shafts for well over a year now and I will also prove it to you with Phil's personally made grips if you don't believe me. Kim is very good friends with Mark Timms and does a lot of his testing at Cool Clubs. Jerry knows more about club building than probably every single person on this site not name Tom Wishon. Love the fact that everyone is doubting the validity of this story. Last time I share any inside info on this site.

1) I never called you a liar; with such a story, you would have to expect that someone would push back on it a little bit. After all you labeled the story "crazy" and characterized it as "unreal" yourself. Even if it is true it doesn't change the fact that it is "far-fetched" and the craziest story I have ever heard.

2) The biggest hang up for me is that Phil would have to watch someone build a club in AZ when he is in PA competing in a major. If he didn't know Jerry built it in the first place, according to your story, since he asked Kim to make him another one, why would he need to watch him build a 3 iron when he didn't watch the 4 - PW?

3) I apparently know as much about Kim as Phil does then, because if he asked him to build him another set, then apparently he was under the impression Kim built them too.

...and I figured this was obvious, but no offense at all in any of my posts. We're all Phil fans and club ho's here. But like I said, just because it's on a message board, doesn't mean that I will take it as gospel. I am genuinely curious about some of the aspects of the story and like to ask questions.

What? I love the story... I only asked about his title because its very interesting to me. I enjoyed the information- what's different about Phil's grips? My next question was actually going to be what his gripping instructions are ... not stock New Decade?

Thanks for the info- I've read plenty of your posts before and only assumed the story was authentic.

Now that I have cooled off, I will fill in the holes from the story. First of all, I will not apologize for reacting the way I did, except for to J.W. I took your question as you being a smart a**, sorry for the heated response. When I was told Saturday morning, it came from a somewhat second-hand person. Now that I have talked directly to Jerry, what exactly happened was Phil didn't like the way the 4 iron was performing and was very heated when he contacted Kim after Friday's round. Kim let him know that the 4 iron was built separately. He then told Phil the 5-PW was built by Jerry. According to Phil, he absolutely loves the 5-PW and once he figured out the 4 was different he went ape s*** and wanted to send his 4 iron, not him, on his jet for Jerry to rebuild that night and have he, Mark and Kim fly back with it. Like I said before, they could not find a pilot for the return flight back to Philly so it fell through and Phil cooled off and just played with it. That being said, he is sending the 4 iron in this week for Jerry to build and match the set. I will try my best to snag a pic of the head and build if I can.

My intention for this is not to get under Callaway's skin, not only because I love Cally, but my company and myself have a great relationship with them. So if this gets out and gets deleted, you all will know why. I am sure Callaway doesn't want the general public to know their #1 guy is having his sticks built outside of their company.

As for the grips, he uses a 61R Midsize ND MC with one wrap. Here are the pics...
