I like the 3 wedge set up. To me it all comes down to the clubs you need to get up and down around the green.

With the 60-75 yard shots, learn what your 1/2 - 3/4 - full swing distances are with your 60 and then have the same shots with your 53. Should have most of the bases covered from 50-120...

Speaking of Z Johnson. Maybe this will help ya Q. I've been trying not to hit a full wedge of any kind for a while and I've gotten a lot more accurate. I can hit my 60 100 yards but I haven't hit it over 75...i'll just take the 56 and put it back a little and make a half swing.

I actually watched that show the other night. Great stuff. I wish my range had better wedge targets. I might sneak in some 55-gallon barrels in the middle of the night and place them every 10 yards.

I'd say WIND is the #1 defining feature of the courses I play. I prefer a firm/fast course, but they are few and far between here in Kansas during the summer. I feel like most courses have to dump water to keep the course alive. That is their belief at least, I think too much consideration is given to a course being "green," but that is a conversation for another day.

Got to play 18 today in some crazy conditions. 39 and windy when I teed off, 50 and windier when I finished. Despite some errant tee shots, I put together an 81. Rattled a knock down 6i off the flag from 162 into the wind.

 

Came home and copped a new pair of Oakley Fire Iridium lenses for my Flak Jackets.

 

Now I'm getting ready to watch a good football game and root on my buddy on the 49ers.

I just made my reservations at Bandon Dunes, and I am pumped! Going over Thanksgiving (and my girlfriend's birthday) this year.

 

It looks like my all-time favorite course, Sand Hills, but on the ocean.

 

 

Day 1: Arriving that morning, 8:30 Preserve, 11:50 Old Mac.

Day 2: 7:30 Pacific Dunes, 12:30 Bandon Dunes.

Day 3: 7:30 Old Mac, 1:30 Preserve.

Day 4: 7:30 Bandon Dunes, 12:30 Pacific Dunes.

Winter rates make Bandon very reasonable. For four nights lodging and 8 rounds, it will only be around $800.
I figure with airfare, meals, BEER, and souvenirs, the trip will cost me about $1500.

Fairway wood decision time!

 

I am currently playing a 7M3 Black Tie X in my Stage 2 Tour 3W. I love the head, but I can't stand the shaft. I feel like it is too boardy and tip stiff. It makes me just want to flip everything over and send it left of left. I'm looking for something in mid/mid range with better feel. With how cheap they can be found, I'm considering a VS Proto 80 X and playing it at 42.5.
