I will try to explain it as best I can, and this might be off-base.

With boardy, tip-stiff shafts, I feel much more pressure in my right forefinger during the downswing. It is just my instinct to try to release that pressure. This just sends it left/left. Everything else feels solid in the swing, I just hate that feel.

I really don't have any trouble getting the 3W up in the air despite being turned down to 14-14.5.

What happens if you end up hitting your best shots with that type of shafts in your fairways? Might have to train to overcome that feeling!

Check out the UST VTS. They can be had for a goof price and have three different tips I believe. I bought the black because I like a stiff tip but the silver and red are both softer I think. Lots of good reviews from guys on the VTS.

I'm seeing hybrids for cheap, but I can't find the wood shaft under $125. Best bet might be i15 3W and pull VTS shaft for $105.

Yep my bad. $125 is best I see on .335. When I bought mine they had plenty of .335 for the same.

VS Proto 80 X on the way! Going to tip it 1" as recommended, throw a Stage 2/SLDR tip on it, and then butt cut it to play 42.5. Can't beat $32 shipped. Cheap experiment.

My club actually has heated bays on their range and I've been able to sneak in 2-3 rounds in this month already. I should be able to get a tip thrown on and try it out within the next 2-3 weeks.

You had a chance to hit VS Proto before? My dude on here, Puppetmaster, has hit almost every shaft in existence. He had some good things to say and these are so cheap, I had to give it a try.

I like the Puppet with the exception of his avatar. I had one VS PRoto byou and it came in a hybrid. I didn't give it too many cuts and yanked it. So I really didn't hit it or give it a real go.

I hit one in a 905R I think and also in a Rapture V1 both in highSchool and loved it. Both X-Flex, from what I remember it felt smoother than the NV did but had similar stiffness profile if that makes sense.

dikaia22, that sounds exactly like what I was hoping to hear. I just wanted something smoother in my 3W. The Black Tie is too boardy and harsh for me. I rarely pull it out for fear of going left/left.

How long have you been using it? How long did it take to "get?" Still use the charts?

I looked into classes. $200 for normal first class and $100 for new Aimpoint Express.

I have never taken the official class, but David Orr gave me the meat and potatoes four years ago. He didn't give me the charts, he just taught me how to read the greens. It is very good. I never really understood how to find the fall line until David taught me how.. Once you have the fall line, it is very easy really. I have taught several of my buddies, at least 8 and they loved it. It is good stuff. It is not a mystery once the fall line is established, gravity causes the ball to break either right to left or left to right. There is no way around it.

Like I said, I haven't taken the class and have looked into it and thought about, but for very cheap, like $0, you can watch Geoff Mangums videos on finding the fall line and how the putt will break from there. It is very good too.

Finding "straight" or the fall line as Hstead put it is the main part to me. That way the ball will break towards the hole and look like it's got a chance to go in. Then, it's just a matter of the right speed.

Edited to add: I took the class and have the charts but I seldom use them when I am playing with other people. I practice enough to where I know close enough to what my aim points should be.

That said, after you give it whirl, be sure to post your results in our ongoing how we jacked up our putting thread. We've got all sorts of neat stuff in there" Aimpoint, unconscious putting, voodoo green reading, dynalign, as well as various and sundry other ways to really jack yourself up.

I loved Aimpoint and after taking the class, I putted better for a while. But with an MBA program, working full time and 2 little kids, I'm lucky to play once a month now and never practice.

The point is, I no longer putt that great because I lost the feel of finding the slope with my feet, which is a big deal to get Aimpoint to work right. You have to be able to interpret the % slope correctly with your feet to get the charts to work or to get the Express Read to work. For me, I constantly am guessing wrong when it's 2% or less in slope. The bigger slopes are easier.

That color, or the flat bill in general? I have a white nike flat bill and a black one and they fit and look great. Don't know about that color though.
