Gary Player is taking off his clothes. All of them.

The 77-year-old Hall of Famer will pose nude in the upcoming ESPN The Magazine’s “Body Issue,” becoming the oldest athlete to bare all in the annual spread.

The other athletes who will appear in the July 12 issue include NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, NBA player John Wall, MLB slugger Giancarlo Stanton and Olympic volleyball player Kerri Walsh Jennings.

Good for him. I hope to be the kind specimen he is at that point in my life, if I make it there.

He is a testament to hard work paying dividends later in life with daily workouts, cardio sessions, and eating clean not as a fad but as a part of his life for 60+ years.

Did anyone watch the Master's Par 3 contest? Jack and Arnie looked like complete crap standing next to him. They looked fat, slow, sluggish, tired, and old......GP looked like a million bucks. Bravo to him!

I guess he'll show us a few new wrinkles.

He was on some show on TGC a couple years ago, and demonstrated his training routine. He'd do a few situps, and say he did a thousand of them a day, and then he'd do a few pushups, and say he did a hundred of them a day, and I'm rolling my eyes and saying, sure you do. And then he gets on a treadmill, and starts jogging, and I'm still yawning. I mean, it's great that he can do it at 75 or whatever, but not unheard of.

But then he keeps cranking up the speed of the treadmill, and before long he's got it up to 10mph. The dude is running at a 6 minute mile pace, and still talking while he's doing it. His legs are a blur, like in a cartoon. I was absolutely floored.

I kind of really admire the guy and more power to his elbow and all that (whatever the saying is) - but another part of me thinks FFS just retire gracefully and put a stop to these self congratulating PR exercises whereby the 'evergreen' Mr Player thrusts forward into limelight and tells us how we should live our lives according to him.

Undoubtedly some of the things mentioned will be how many thousand sit ups, push ups, etc he does every week and he will tell how many millions of miles he's traveled and how he won those 9 majors straight from his mouth. I think I've heard it about 8543 times.

Good for him for being in shape, but I'd be happier with Azahara Munoz, Sandra Gal, or Paula Creamer....not a guy in his late 70's.

There are only 2 players alive who have won more than he and he's one of only 5 that have won all 4. I'd say that was fairly impressive.

I congratulate him more for his willingness to face ill feeling folks as a supposed "representative of apartheid" and still persevere and win. I, of course, do not and did not support apartheid. But he faced huge disdain as a white South African golfer during that era. And he did so with grace.

I have always said "Strong mind, Strong body: take your pick". I think he had (and has) both. I know he has been a role model to present era South African golfers and to a huge number of others worldwide.
