John Daly's Wilson "0" Iron

They need to re-issue that thing and change the name from "0" to "punchout." That is essentially the only thing that club is capable of in most people's hands (especially mine)!

I am telling you that it is nearly impossible to hit. This is the exact same configuration that JD used. The shaft feels like a tire iron. It is perfect for a 180 yard shot from under the trees that needs to fade 20 yards. Other than that, I have no praticale use for it.

I hit it side by side with my new Titleist 712U. The difference is like comparing a tiny muscle back blade (the 0 iron) to an ultra GI club. It's that big of a difference.

I still have a set of the RM Midsize Forged irons. Even the "normal" irons are far more difficult to hit than today's blades. The Maltby MPF rating for the 6-iron is 387.
Since I know what it is like to try and hit the 3-iron, which has 21° of loft, it is beyond me how anybody can hit the same head design with 13°.

Actually you are mistaken... JD said it has 3 degrees of loft originally, then 'admitted' it was about 13 degrees. I believe Faldo and Vijay had zero irons made, I think both for the '96 Open.

I've been on the look out for one of these, if you have one, and you are UK based, let me know...

 

8 years later I now own 5 of them.

 

All firestick graphite shafts, but sadly not THE firestick, just the grey one that was also in the Invex

Actually you are mistaken... JD said it has 3 degrees of loft originally, then 'admitted' it was about 13 degrees. I believe Faldo and Vijay had zero irons made, I think both for the '96 Open.

Good grief this is a blast from the past. Many years ago I worked at a country club very close to the Wilson testing facility and was in their advisory staff. I got to hit the 0 iron multiple times. It was really good for punching out from under the trees when I had pulled my driver into the trees.
