NE Ohio Players

Golf has been cancelled in NE Ohio.
March 25th and it is 22 degrees out.
The grass has not even considered turning green.

Yep that its going to be awhile although I do see 60's on the extended forecast. The grass should be green by June.

I'm still not sure I'm sold on finding a club to join. There are so many courses in the area I haven't played that I'd like to expand where I play. I wish Windmill offered some kind of season pass so I could have a quick 9 or hit the range whenever I wanted but unfortunately they don't. I'd imagine it has something to do with the fact that KSU plays there but I have no idea.

Are there any other courses in Ohio you all would recommend that are a must play? Or even in western PA or WV?

No nothing to do with KSU... They only practice here when they're in town and it's not the range just to play.

Season passes are tricky... That's about all I will say about them.

Oh alright. And yeah I can see how a season pass or something of the sort can be tough. During the summer is it hard to get on during the weekday afternoons? I never played there until fall when the rate was discounted and there were less people but it'll likely be my go to course for a quick nine after work, unless it's fairly busy.

I hate to be Debbie Downer, but I think that we need to consider a real talk about pushing this back to May. I am all for sucking it up and playing in less than desirable conditions. But, for something like this, I might prefer to improve our chances for quality conditions and nice weather. Thoughts?

That's up to everyone else. I think Brookledge is fine by me- quality and fair track, but the change in date could open other options that others might prefer. I honestly couldn't care less, other than Brookledge being more convenient for me geographically.

I was there when it hit. When I left the house it was 40 degrees. Drove 15 minutes and it was 25 and the snow cut loose right as I walked out of GG. I was debating on the way there to go to the range but as I watched the temp drop that turned into a no go.

I've been a die hard all winter going to the range in the worst of conditions. Now, it's just deflating when the weather goes like this and I'm perfectly happy to just come straight home and complain about the weather. I am eyeing Monday as a potential golf day. Though the rain all weekend won't help. I really couldn't care less about conditions at this point, if they will let me out next time I am able, I'm playing. It's freaking March 25th and I haven't played golf (in Ohio) since the first week of December.

So much for 1" of snow! And I say we make the outing May 17th or 24th that way we hopefully have good conditions for playing. I'm not sure how many people who want to play check this thread regularly but does that sound good? We could also play somewhere else since it should be nicer out.

And if we do push it back, would anyone be up for golfing in NC that weekend? I'm seriously considering leaving that Friday morning and playing Friday, Saturday twice and Sunday, then head home. Probably play Tobacco Road and other courses in the area. Not sure about Pinehurst.

I'd vote for the 17th, but only because I want to do it ASAP. Like I said, don't think Brookledge is some dog track, it is as good as any public course in the region. But, if there is somewhere more convenient geographically for everyone or amenities-wise for something like this, I am all for it. Also, if JW can get us a nice rate at Windmill, or someone else knows of somewhere that would be willing to work with us on price that the location might be better for others, even better.

I am optimistic that the weather will eventually turn and there will be green grass by April 19th. I haven't played any of the courses up there so I really have no opinion on the choice of course. I would really like to play windmill t some point this year, so hopefully if we don't all make it, somebody will be able to play there at another point in the year.

I still want to play on the 19th of April too. If anbody is into that, let me know.

I might be interested in that. I guess it would depend on how much it ultimately costs. I probably couldn't afford to fly but if we were driving down I could do it. I was also looking at a two day trip to Lakeview in Morgantown. They have a great deal including lodging and food. I have been there a few times and its well worth it. If anybody wants to try that, I would be in for that too.

I'll play Windmill anytime I'm able to with you. One of my favorite courses in the area, even when I lived in Warren it was well worth the drive. Not that I'm much closer in Cuyahoga Falls.

I was laughing yesterday. I drove by a driving range on the way to work and some poor bastxxx was out there hitting a large bucket in the mud with the snow flying. All I could think was that guy was either crazy or really really dedicated.

Why don't we just do both? I'm sure most of us will play multiple times between now and then anyways, assuming the weather cooperates. I am starting to get shaky on the 19 of April, I was told today that our store inventory is coming up and it may make taking the day off tough. Though, I have already put in for it and don't foresee any problems with getting the day off.

I'm not even sure where windmill is, but I am guessing its an hour away, give or take. Boulder Creek was almost exactly an hour away from my front door. I will definitely take you up on that though.

I would play both for sure. At this point, if there isn't snow on the ground, I will be playing as much as I can.

From my condo on Elm road right off Rt. 5 in Warren, from my door to Windmill was under 45 minutes, probably closer to 30. Now that the speed limit is 70 on Rt. 76, I'd be willing to bet it's close to that from Y-Town as well. It's an easy drive, and they always have great deals on GolfNow at Windmill. My father and I played there last September for around $18 for 18 and a cart, I believe, at like noon on a Tuesday.

I'm going to price it out tonight. I looked at it a few months ago and it was under $500 and that's by driving there. As for the outing date, it doesn't matter to me either. If it's in May I'd choose Windmill, if not then Brookledge is fine. We can also set up other dates where we can plan on playing and whoever can make it can come out, but I figure it'd be cool if everyone could plan to get together on one Saturday for a meet and greet.

But there's no reason why we can't plan multiple outings throughout the year.
