It may be a messy day and a very soft final two rounds. I'm up in Boston, ~25-30 miles north of the course, so maybe the course was spared. I woke up this morning to torrential rain, ridiculous thunder and a NOAA emergency flash flood warning blaring on my phone (didn't even know they did this, what a horrid sound).

First half of Phil's post-round interview inspired a great deal of respect, then he just lost it.

I found his positive outlook on the day and the upcoming weekend to be admirable. I found it less appealing when asked to describe his wedge shot his was response was that "no one would understand it". I'm no where near the wedge guru Phil is, sure, but what a worthless comment that just plays into his FIGJAMness. That's all.
I didn't see it that way. I just thought he was thinking it'll take too long to explain and be too convoluted to make much sense in a 10 sec. sound bite to a general TV audience. With a touch of FIGJAM thrown in.

I think Phil couldn't explain it because it surprised even him. I think it was a "hit and hope" shot and it came off way better than even Phil had hoped. He was as surprised as anyone with the result, IMHO.

I noticed that during this event Phil seems to hit shots quickly, without much thought. This was one of them, as if he is allowing his instinct to hit some of these recovery shots. Might be something there.

He's putting as well as I have ever seen him.

I had the opportunity to watch it again, and waited for that interview just to see if I in fact had missed a crime committed by the great Phil Mickelson.

It's no wonder I had not initially heard an arrogant statement because Phil didn't deliver one. He seemed to mean that an explanation would be difficult for anyone to understand, so unlikely lucky was the result. It was truly hit and hope.

Just shows the bias some people bring into these affairs; bias which can cloud.

Immediately after the shot, the grin and look on his face indicate that he knew he'd gotten away with something crazy.

Phil's crazy flop shot. Amazing. To the FIGJAM guy - shove it.

I can't get over this one. Amazing. Loved Maltbys comment "that was one of the greatest up and ins of ALL TIME". Probably yes. Awesome shot.

I was in a similar position yesterday and instead of thumping it like that I bladed it 30 yds past.

He played a similar type shot from a bare lie on the 18th at Castle Stuart to win the Scottish Open.

What's that tour saying 'These Guys are Good'?

I tell lies, it wasn't like it at all...

I seem to remember him hitting a similar shot at the 15 at The Masters a couple of years ago. He was past the hole, towards the 16th, hitting it back towards the water in front of 15. The normal shot here is a bump and run which very few get anywhere near the hole, Mickelson hit a moon ball which I thought was just incredible.

Found it on youtube.

Why doesn't Stenson rip it with driver? He seem to sving it at 80-90% with driver compared to 95-100% with 3-wood. It's probably not that important to get those 20 extra yards he would get or so if he went after it, but in that case it feels like he doesn't have much use of the driver at all?
He is very wayward with the driver when giving it full beans. Why bother when you can hit it so long with 3 wood? Is he carrying a driver these days? didn't for quite a while.

I could see him creating his own Frankenwood! That would be seriously long!

Doesn't matter what round it is on Sunday, Tiger still can't shoot a decent score. Driver is so erratic.

For all those who complain about how boring the majors are when the winning score is +2- -2, is this really better? Like watching the wendys 3 tour challenge.

I think a lot of people enjoy watching birdiefests, and the TOUR acknowledges this.

The commentators earlier mentioned that enough tee boxes were moved up to make the course play 7,043 yards today. With no wind and softened greens you have the perfect recipe for low scores.
