Most ridiculous thing heard on the range

Hitting driver at the range, group of three lads rotating in the bay behind me. I knew they'd been watching me for a while and had questioned their mate who was obviously the golfer, why he couldn't hit it like me.

On of the them then says "i'll give you a tenner if you stand in front of him whilst he hits a shot"

The guy turns to him and says "**** that, he'd put a hole in me"

The only time I forget to take my iPod to the range, and this is what I hear! Haha

Cheech comes walking back over to Jack and gave him a big hug. He put his arm on Jacks shoulder and started telling him all about his putter. I couldn't hear exactly what he said but you could tell Cheech really admired and respected that man.

"Hey, how far is that black flag out there? Just hit my driver to it, must be about 280-290" me: Uh its about 235 today.

My personal favorite, mind you the Grande in Jackson, MI has 6 tee's Red, Yellow (5500yds), white, blue, gold, black (7100 yds). I see a lot of parking lot pro's and range braggers..

"No, I would assume something around 65-68"
"Oh, shot a 73 last night from the yellows, thought I might be close"
"I think the record has to come from the tips"

On the range I hear "if you spin the ball before your hit in(on the tee) it will go farther", I presume these are the same guys that go to the gym and think if you spin the weights on the barbell that you will make more gains.

actually, if you are a high spin player, spitting on it might reduce the spin and increase carry/reduce slicing

Popped down to the range this morning. These two guys arrive, with an older man in tow. The one guy hits it really well, the other guy not so much. After a bit I notice that the older guy is giving the lesser player swing advice. Can't help but overhear "cover the ball" and then admonish the guy for not doing it. Older guy talks like he has perhaps given some instruction, but then again, I hear lots of guys talk like that at the range. Tells him he is not holding the right wrist angle. Guy hits it worse.

I go about my business and then hear the old guy say to the better player: "We can get this guy to a +3 in one year".

Should have got his name and number, no one here has ever promised me that!

lol. saw something similar recently. it was the father with his teenage son giving all kinds of advice after every shot and taking all kinds of cell phone vids. These people who just throw up swing tips must not realize what it takes to improve a golf swing. No student will ever improve by this method, and I assume anyone who teaches this way has never really gotten good at golf.

Range total length = 260 yards.

Guy next to me hits one and says "I nailed that - hit it over 300!". (he didn't know the length I guess)

The ball sails just past the 200 flag, lands, and rolls out to around 220 total.

Didn't have the heart to tell him. I could only imagine what he said to his friends his next time out. "I can't figure it. This hole is only 350 and I know I hit it hard. But I am still 180 out. I was hitting it SO well on the range the other day."

I'm a hacker no doubt (just started playing in May and shoot high 90s) but I got an R1 for my grad present so the first time at the range with it I was just trying to get used to it.

Guy comes up to me and asks me how I like my driver and that he is thinking of getting one because his ping i20 (i believe, either way it was a newer one) causes him to slice the ball a lot and the R1 will probably solve that problem. I ended the convo ASAP.

Another one... I'm hitting my 7 iron off a mat and two guys are hitting drivers about 5 mats behind me (to my left). I am setting up for my shot, picking a target, checked my grip... All good to go. As I start moving my club in the takeaway all I hear is a swooooosh sound by my left ear and a ball bouncing as it runs away from me. That ball must have been an inch away from hitting me in the head from his low runner shot. I look back at them after recollecting myself since I was in shock for a minute haha. They looked at me with a bland expression and raised their hands to say sorry.

So, for people that laugh when they hear fore at the range.... I wish I heard fore from those guys that day

I'm 37, and was having a phenomenon range session. It was just one of those days where you're blasting everything. I had a 12 year old kid walk by me on his way to the car with his mom and proceed to tell me "food for thought, your posture is WAY too upright"

I couldn't even respond...I was flabbergasted lol

One of the driving ranges i go to has a net out around 300 or so. After every shot this kid would say "OHH YEA that one hit the net" or "OHh that one was over" to his girlfriend or boyfriend whatever it was. The sad thing is it never even hit the 200's. I was hitting my 9 iron past most of his shots.

Worst I've ever heard (or seen) is hard to describe.

I show up at the range and there's only one guy there. Short burly older guy with cut off sleeves. I set up a ways down the line. Then I hear something terrible from this guy. Not some sort of tennis grunt. This was something else entirely. Like something you'd hear on WWF. I'm not exaggerating in the least, I swear. He hits another and same thing so I turn around to see what exactly is going on there. Okay so this guy's swing?!?! LOL It's the closest thing I've ever seen to a Happy Gilmore by someone not obviously trying to do one. It was simply the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in my life. I regret to this day that I didn't have my phone on me to capture it for prosperity. It would have gone viral, I have no doubt about it. He hit a whole bucket like this. I just hung back and watched and hoped he didn't catch me laughing. I really hope to see him at the range again someday. I'll be prepared next time.
