Most ridiculous thing heard on the range

How about the guy that feels he has to broadcast all of his shots in an obnoxiously loud voice? "Going to hit the high draw here between the 150 and 200yd flags" then proceeds to totally fan one to the 125yd sign on the opposite side of the range...7 straight shots in a row. Or when he challenges you to a little game of range "H.O.R.S.E" and proceeds to get pounded until the "E" and wins a letter due to thinned pw he hit that rolled to the 100yd flag that miraculously gets inside you...that is followed up with "Had to play it low bc of the wind...you know how well I hit the 100 yard shot"

Last one- hitting balls next to two guys that are obv friends and watching them hit wedges at the 75yd flag saying "nice chip" back and forth.

Heard a really good golfer one time describing his game: "I can play the fade...hit 18 fwys and 18 greens...well 14 fwys you know what I mean...but that's boring golf. Gonna learn to draw it!"

Week later: "can't control the hook. Can't play that way. Going back to boring golf. Gonna fade it. Always hit fwys and greens with the fade."

Some guy once told me "nice shot" I thought that was ridiculous
We had this debate today during a tournament. While players vary in experience and ability, I as well as my player felt that it is condescending to say good shot immediately after impact. After 25 years at it I can usually hear a slight misfit, but I don't really like hearing, nice or good, or great shot no matter the outcome when I clearly clanked it.

I dont have any issues with this one, its fun to go to the range with a buddy and practice

I also enjoy this...my point was the 75 yard "chip"

A 75 yard chip makes sense when you have a 90 yard pitch, 110 flop, and 190 3/4 swing with a LW.

At indoor golf last winter. Two middle aged guys and a middle aged woman are golfing in the spot beside ours. It appears that middle aged lady is trying to learn to golf from the middle aged guys - the best of the two is 26 over through 8 holes. They were minding their own game and we were minding ours but our two groups were too close together to not hear some of the advice. The 'best' advice we heard was 'Swing your club like you swing a hammer.'

I once heard a wife tell her husband something pornographic thinking people were out of earshot. I was not. Haha. It was spectacular.

On another instance, I got to the range early in the morning, went to the end of the range thinking I would be by myself and let out a thunderous fart. Then went about my business of selecting a wedge and stretching. I turn around and realize there was a middle aged woman two stalls down. There is no way she didn't hear it. So embarrassed.
So what did she tell him?\
Yeah, what did she say?
I wouldn't be able to say on this forum without it getting deleted by a marshall. You can use your imagination though, haha.
Censorship sucks :-(
THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!!!!!!

Did I do that right?

I heard one guy at the range tell another guy to always fill his car with "super" gas every time he got his oil changed. Totally awesome.

Was at the Driving range once, and i was watching this guy in front of me. The guy hit a whole bucket of balls one handed, not well might i add. When he finished his bucket, he watched me hit a few shanks and proceeded to say to me, "if you wanna play better start with one hand." I tried so hard not to laugh but eventually gave in when he walked away.

Hitting one-handed shots helps me with my swing. It forces me to keep my back swing shorter as I tend go way over horizontal. It also helps with my tempo when I'm swinging too fast. One-handed bunker shots were a real eye-opener for me.

Of course giving advice to strangers when you can't hit the ball yourself is stupid.

I just gave that advise the other day. I wasn't suggesting that the person actually swing like a hammer. I wanted them to understand that they don't need to swing as hard as possible to get the most out of the club. It's the same with a hammer.

I agree. Maybe the guy was passing along a swing tip that he heard, and wasn't trying to be a jerk. Hitting balls one handed is great advise. I do it all the time and it helps out a ton.

We had an old guy we played with several years back, I think he was in his mid 80's. Just a great guy, but almost every shot as soon as you made contact he would say "Great Shot", you'd just cringe as you watched it fly out of bounds, or into the lake or trees or something similar. Just one of his several annoying habits out there, but we sure had fun with him out there and wish he was still around. Really had to remind yourself during the round of that because if you were playing poorly it could really start to get to you.

Sorry, not really relevant to the thread, but it just got me to remembering Merle.

At the range at my club and I quote..."we don't have time to stop at the pro shop just grab a couple of range balls, I mean a golf ball is a golf ball, right?". They ended up being the group ahead of me, oh joy.

After being told I had an "alright" swing, the dbag in the stall next to me continues to talk to me even while my back is to him. He proceeds to tell me that his swing is as good as anyones and the best thing about his swing is it was self taught...you know like Bubba Watsons. He was no Bubba. He was only at the range long enough to swing once, send a hosel rocket that fired off the stall and shot directly back hitting "Bubba" in the ankle and dropping him like he was shot. He gets up, grabs his clubs and limps away leaving his Jumbo Bucket for me to take. Laughed for about 10 minutes straight.

This wasn't said, but I was at hitting at our heated bays (it was winter), and this young guy didn't like hitting range balls so he proceeded to hit a couple of boxes brand new ProV's. He then wanted the range picker to go retrieve them. There is snow on the ground and about a gazillion balls out there.

Okaaayyyy...

I was watching my 13 year old niece for the day so we went to the local driving range/mini golf place.

She legitimately whupped me at putt-putt by draining at least 4 aces.

We went over to the range and I gave her an 8 iron and she started hitting some balls. They were actually pretty good stripes for first timer. They were solidly struck but going off in every direction.

So I asked her: "What are you aiming at?"

She classically replied: "The back of the ball.

Duh!

I'm sure you corrected her mistake by telling her to aim at the turf under/in front of the ball. :)

I'm on the range 15-20 yards away from another guy who was getting a lesson from the club pro. The guy is struggling with solid contact and even getting it air born. Guy asks the pro if he watched the week's PGA tournament and saw how well Colt Knost played. The pro said yes. He replies "I just don't get it. I am built just like Colt Knost. We have similar swings. I don't understand why I can't play just like him." I tried not too, but might have laughed out loud when I heard that. Pro did a great job acting like a professional. Felt like giving him a tip for not rolling on the ground from laughter.
