Below 50 or so I switch to Yellow Hex Chrome, Chrome + is 'normal' ball. The Precept IQ are also decent, just don't spin quite like Chrome does.

Hex Hot, Titleist Velocity. Our problem is Autumn (Fall) leaves. Miss the fairway by a yard and you can lose balls for fun. So I go with lower spinning, softish feeling and lower cost ammo. Used to play Noodles but not so keen on latest versions. As already mentioned the Wilson balls are really soft and easy to compress when it is close to freezing!

Yesterday I played in the low 40*'s. front nine played with the new Bridgestone Precept. Back 9 my normal gamer, Z Star SL. I think I'm done with the soft 2pc surlyns as winter balls and will stick to the SL year round.

I normally play the Maxfli U4x when they go on sale. Great ball when you can get them on sale for 2 dozen for $45.00. Plays just like a Pro V and a ton cheaper. That being said, I live in the Northeast and in the fall and spring I play Top Flite D2+ Feel. I buy 2 boxes of 15 balls for $25.00. The ball plays pretty well for me and I don't worry about losing a ball in the leafs. The other day I lost one ON THE GREEN because of the leafs and the glare from the sun. For 80 cents a ball you can't beat it. Does NOT play like a hard 2 piece ball. I get some spin from it around the greens and can stop it, not as fast as a Pro V or a Premium ball but not going to spend $4 per ball just to lose them. I agree with all the others in this thread, the DUO is a great ball. If I can't buy prem balls cheap then I play the DUO.

Found some ProV1x on sale and played them this week. Temp was in the 40's. Was told not to play these as winter balls. Why ?
Why? too expensive to lose in the leaves for me. Nothing worse than a great shot that would be found in the summer and is lost due to leaves in the fall! I break out the bag of found balls for winter golfing and hit away!

Are the Yellow Balls easier to find in the winter ???
I thought so until this past weekend. I'm still on the fence about them this time of year as they are easier to distinguish in a leafy fairway, but anything off the fairway where leaves seem to be heavier I find they blend in well with the colors.

Yesterday I played 27 holes in low 40's temps.
Started off with some z star xv's, then went to the e6, duo, lady precept, z star, DT solo and finished out with the volvik crystal. I didn't see any discernable difference as far as distance or feel went.

Some do play them year round, even in cold temps. However, many players like a lower compression ball for cold weather. Feels softer and flies farther. Higher compression balls like the Pro-V1X can feel hard in cold temps, and some players complain of distance loss.
