I was in Golf Town yesterday and saw the Ketsch, I had to give it a roll. I liked the look, the weight (355 grams), feel and sound was also to my liking. I rolled 10 putts from approx. 30' to 3 different hole locations and made 6/10, the other missed by inches. I have made quite a few changes recently to my bag and told myself that buying another putter in 2014 was not going to happen but I can see a Ketsch in my future.

Man, don't you know that all those Golf Town greens are sloped toward the hole?? No matter what putter I try, I never miss at Golf Town either.

I was at Roger Dunn last week and was asking about the Ketsch since I saw it for sale at Golfsmith (i refuse to buy anything from Golfsmith) and it just so happened that their Ping rep was standing there.

He said the release is delayed and should be in stores after the first of May.

Only 3 degrees of loft on the Ketsch unless you special order. Guess I wont be using a forward press anymore, that might take it down too 1degree of loft. I wonder why they only went with 3degrees?
I believe 3* is std. Ping putter loft. I ordered mine at 4* due a slight fwd. press that I use. It can't get here soon enough!!

Whoo hoo.... just picked up my custom order (2 degrees upright) Ketsch counterbalanced, and had my shop install the elusive, sold-out, unicorn-like Super Stroke Flatso 17- love this grip, I definitely prefer the Flatso to the normal Super Stroke grips.

did you add counter weight to the shaft end or is it the 50gram that ping adds to it?

I picked one of these up today. Wow! Had a great practice session outside afterwards and am really excited to game it. So many mallets feel clumsy to me, but this one is well balanced.

As you mention, Ping puts a 50 gram weight in the butt end of the shaft itself (in case anyone is wondering, the weight is not in the Ping grip- it is in the shaft). The Super Stroke grip is 100 grams, the Ping stock grip is 127 grams, so by switching grips I lost 30 grams. I am going to play with it a bit and if the heavier head feel bugs me, I will remove the Ping 50 gram weight and replace it with a 75 gram weight. I am pretty certain I will be adding weight but we will see...

sorry if i'm re asking a question here. I was wondering if you tested this ketsch in the regular option (non cb)?

ย

I was able to test one and it seems very very firm. My question is this...does the CB versoin soften that feel as Counterbalancing often does?

@greenadam21: I did not try the traditional, non-counterbalanced Ketsch. Actually, I bought the Ketsch counterbalance without even trying it. I based my decision solely on the mallet putter testing results of that other golf forum.

How do you remove the 50 and add. 75 weight? What weight system does Ping use in the shaft?

Well, I just discovered a potential problem. I was not present when my shop installed my Super Stroke grip, but I assumed the Ping weight was affixed with a screw into the shaft (similar to Tour Lock Pro counterweights I have used on clubs in the past, which install with an allen wrench).

After speaking with Ping today, I learned that the weight is actually epoxied into the shaft, flush with the butt end. :(

Ping's choice to epoxy the weight into the shaft surprises me a bit, because Ping has Super Stroke putter grips and other aftermarket putter grips that can be ordered with Ping putters and these other grips don't all weigh 127 grams. What was the plan if a customer wanted a grip other than the stock Ping grip? With an epoxied weight it makes it difficult/impossible to compensate for the differing weights of the various aftermarket putter grips.

Tour Lock sells a 75 gram counterweight and I was going to use that (assuming the Ping weight screwed out). Oh well. I will have to come up with some other plan to add weight.

Hmmm....... Any Ping reps reading this thread, feel free to chime in and come to the rescue with any suggestions, superhero style :superman2:
