A few new things to add, pics will be taken when I get them all in.

Driver is now an i25 10.5* w/ either a Miyazaki Kusala Indigo 72S at 43.5" or Fujikura Motore Speeder VC 7.1X at 44". I'll test them both out and see which I like better. Irons will be ordered in the next week or two, I'll be getting 714 AP2s w/ Modus3 120 in either stiff or X, soft stepped, haven't quite decided yet. More than likely I'll go X soft stepped, but I need to swing a few more to see how it goes.

Lastly, new putter will be coming as well. Odyssey MXM #1W. Going have a 1.0 SS Black/Silver grip on it at 33.5". Getting it bent to 67* lie angle and 2.5* of loft to match what I was fit with at CC. I was hoping to see an Odyssey Works #1W Cruiser, but no dice. One might be coming later and if it does, I might pick that up at some other point in time.

Trip coming up in February to Naples for a few days, should get about four rounds in. I should have all new sticks in by then and it'll be their maiden voyage. More than likely on two courses I've never played before. Should be interesting...

Updated as of 2015.01.16:

Alright, I figured it was finally time to actually make a WITB for me. I don’t change clubs too often, though I like to try things out constantly. So this may not change as often as some people’s on here, but we’ll see how this goes. I’m open to anything you guys have to say, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask away and I’ll answer it.

I’ve looked at a few WITB threads, so I’ll just list off what I’m currently playing and then throw the pictures down at the bottom. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this thread better formatted, I’m all about it.

Driver: Ping i25 10.5* w/ Fujikura Motore Speeder 7.1X; 44.0"; D3

For all the stats, backup clubs, etc, I’ve included a link to a Google Doc which has everything listed out, including the other driver shafts I currently have, so if you see me say something about a quiver of shafts, now you’ll know what that entails. Also has all the random clubs I have as well.

I guess on to the pictures: **TEMP EDIT** --> A few of the clubs listed are en route, so new pictures will be taken once all new clubs arrive. Should be first or second week of February I would think.

Thanks, I hope I do too! AP2s should be here this week. As soon as I get them, I'm taking them in to have specs checked, etc and then I'll be able to snap some pictures and update that part of the thread. Trip to warm weather coming up next week, so I'll actually be able to play some golf too, which is nice.

LOL, funny man, funny man. Yes, I just got them in yesterday. I'm hoping to grab some decent pictures of the new sticks (driver, irons, putter) in the next few days and post them all up here. Thanks for the 'gentle' reminder.

AP2's are just really solid irons that basically anyone can play.... The extra offset took a little bit of time for me to get used to (coming from blades) but I hardly notice it anymore. They are not super exciting, unique, crazy irons, just very consistent clubs that do everything well and can help shoot lower scores.

Did Club Champion do the build or direct from Titleist?

Direct from Titleist. I was trying to work with CC to get something arranged so the price gap wasn't so large, but to no avail. Essentially the best I got was for them to order the setup just like anyone would right from Titleist, rip them apart, then build them back up to the specs listed. It was still going to be about 30% over retail from what I remember. It just didn't make sense to me. I'm not tighter than two coats of paint by any stretch, but the cost didn't seem worth it.

I'm taking the clubs in to have them spec checked before even hitting them, hoping to bring them in tomorrow. Drop 'em off at lunch and hopefully get them back after work. I'm just looking for confirmation on the loft, lie, and swing weight. Spec sheet from Titleist has everything spot on as ordered, so we'll see how it comes out.

I'd agree about the AP2s. Nothing special, they won't turn any heads, I'm just hoping they get the job done in a consistent manner.

Love the spreadsheet you have on there, I am working on something similar to track what I have played in the past to help me make decisions about future clubs and builds.
It's good for reference looking at past things as well. I look at it now and then and think, "huh...I do still have that club/shaft, don't I?" And that then gets the wheels turning about how much better 'x' shaft will be than what I currently have. It's a never ending cycle so it seems :)

The thing you have going for you is the tools to do almost all the work yourself. I don't...yet. So I'm relegated to taking everything in somewhere to have it done. Fortunately, the guys at the local PGASS do great work and I've never been disappointed in anything they've done for me over the past 18 months, which has actually been quite a bit just due to tinkering. They seem to have a good breadth of people there. One guy knows a ton about shafts and everything about them, another one has good knowledge about woods, yet another about irons. One guy doesn't know everything, but with the staff they have, they have everything pretty well covered.

It cost a lot to go through the whole blue print/ custom build process..... It's a hard pill to swallow when the OEM sells the exact shaft/ setup you want for a lot less money. My current set of AP2's is blue printed and built by Cool Clubs, the cost to replace them is one of the reasons that I don't even consider new irons. I know to really beat them I would have to go through the entire process again and in the end would probably gain nothing or very little in regards to shooting better scores.

I think you made a good decision ordering direct and then having the specs checked, I have owned a few custom set of Titleist irons from their custom dept and they have always gotten the orders very close to what I wanted within reason. I always go short and heavy and most OEM's will not get anywhere close to the SW that I want, they have been pretty good. I will be interested to see how your set turns out.

So your saying there is a cure to being a golf club ho and it's a pill called Cool Clubs? This new vaccine could destroy the golf industry as we know it!

On a serious note I agree. I had my current irons built to spec from the ground up and they are extremely consistent in both my good shots and bad shots. No weird shots that you just can't explain. It really helps you from jumping into different irons all the time. Although I'm tempted this year with all the great offerings.

I'm with both you guys. Scratch, had I not got the hankering to go through with this at the time I did, I would've gone to Cool Clubs for sure. They have the Tour Experience fitting or whatever it is, which is all done outside on a range at a local country club. I'm assuming this is what you went through? It's like $650 or whatever it is, but I think it would be worth the extra cost to do everything outside, so you can see how everything is flying to your own eye. Do I think what I did at Club Champion was perfect? No. Do I think it was worth the cost? No doubt.

I'll probably do the Cool Clubs thing in the future, and when that time comes, I'm sure I'll have them whip up everything themselves. It'll turn into about a $3,000-5,000 endeavor, but like you said...if you don't get anything new for even a few years, you might still be coming out ahead.

I have not done the entire bag fitting through CC.... The only time I ever did that was at The Kingdom and I honestly think it was a little too much for one day. At Cool Clubs I have done a few iron fittings, a few wood fittings and a few "adjustment" fittings.... One major thing that I have learned from fittings is that, it's one day where the fitter is only seeing our tendencies for that one trip. Since we are not touring pro's and most of us have the 50 hour work week swing, it's really hard for our fitters to make a lasting decision based off that one day where our flaws might have been different than what they normally are. I think for most low single digit players the tendencies are pretty consistent but still it's only one day when we have to hit those clubs day after day and unless you want to keep buying new gear they need to work.

At TPI a few years ago they fit me into a D2 8.5 Speeder TS which on that day was really solid and the best of the bunch. But when I got it onto the course it worked good but was not ideal, I knew that I needed something that launched higher and flew further but still going the same overall distance. Another example is my current FD 3 wood with WB, the thing is a monster and the day that I got fit for it I was hitting the ball really well, but after a bunch of rounds I know that I need something that elevates better off the deck.... I have tried a bunch of different shafts in the same head and they were right with their fitting, the shaft and head combo that they fit me into is the best ball flight and numbers, but it's not the best for my game. So I think they can get us close but ultimately they are guessing and it really comes down to knowing what you need regardless of what the fitter says.

My current set of AP2's I hit the exact setup 5-6 times over a 3 week period along with the Apex Pro's, each with a few shafts, basically eliminating something after each session. This was after one initial Cool Clubs fitting and then we checked the numbers again after the last time I tested them. They were totally cool with it and I only used the Trackman for the first fitting and the second confirmation which was about 10 balls. In total I probably hit less than 50 balls on Trackman as a majority of the testing was on the range and course. To me this eliminated the experiment process and I ended up with a set of irons that I know work. I plan on doing something similar the next time that I get new irons. Sorry for rambling, but I hope the irons work out...

I have posted something similar in the past, but it doesn't get said enough around here, and Hayz knows this too, so I'm preaching to the choir. A fitting only gets you so far, because it's done on the range where you have multiple chances and in some way, in a vacuum. On the course, you have ONE shot to pull off each time. So yes, getting the optimal set up matters, but once you take that optimal club out to the course, does it work when you need it to? Biggest reason I've avoided launch monitors of late was because I was changing my swing and my clubs to get perfect numbers, and then putting up crap scores on the course with my perfectly fit clubs. Now if the club looks good, feels good, and I'm confident with what I can do with it, it's in the bag. What if I'm hitting my irons 10 yards shorter than I'm supposed to? Club up. Sorry for my ramble, please carry on. :D

Yup yup. To what you guys were saying, I'm in complete agreement. Had I just been looking at numbers, (or showed people here the whole reading from Trackman) people would be screaming at me why I didn't just get Callaway X2Hot Pro irons with either Aldila RIP Tours or Steelfibers. They gave the best 'numbers'. But they didn't give the best results you'd want on a course...covering 10 balls with a blanket so to speak.

Had I covered all the RIP Tour/Steelfibers balls with a single blanket, it would've been akin to the size of the American Flags at football games. Okay, maybe not that drastic but close.

Waiting eagerly for some MXM #1W pics :)
I posted a few of them up in the MXM thread I'm pretty sure. I took some comparison shots between that and the Tour Design Black #1W as well. I'm going to update this with all the new clubs I have though, I just got some new toys, and the irons were delivered about a week before my trip to being down south for a little it.

I'm playing absolutely atrocious, but hey...even hacking around a golf course beats a day at the office.

Love the spreadsheet. I have something similar but very JV vs. yours. Well done and great way to track your choices/changes over time!

What do you think about the single-bend shaft? I think the double looks better as it's in the Versa and the Black Series. I'm curious to if you experience any difference in the toehang/facebalance of the putters. I'd imagine that the MXM's face feels a bit softer though.

I haven't noticed that much of a difference to be honest, if no one told me, I don't know if I would've noticed it at all. I have the 20g weights in the MXM right now, giving it a head weight of 360g I believe as I knew I was going to be on faster greens (shop said the stimp was 11.5 when I was playing) but I might lighten it up a bit if the greens were slower.

I didn't notice a difference in the toe hang / face balance between the two though if I were to take a guess, I'd say the MXM might be ever so slightly more face balanced with less toe hang than the Tour Design, but I could be making that up too.

No doubt, the MXM does feel softer than the Tour Design, but I'd stop short of saying it's a huge difference. For the first few rounds I used balls I was familiar with (TP5, Chrome+) and the last round I used a Chrome Soft, so that was obviously softer than the other two. Solid ball that Chrome Soft.

Thanks for the answers man.
I have recently taken quite the liking to anything square and wide-ish, and I have tried everything but the 1W Black Series available close to me. ( Versa 1W, Select Squareback, MXM 1W, Tank Cruiser 1W & Works 1W. )
Now to only decide on which one to get :)

 • 4 months later...

Okay, just made an update to the first post to add some details about what I'm playing now and some pictures too. The pictures have been down for a while, apologies. The bag is pretty set now. I can't see changing anything really. The ONLY thing I [s]might[/s] will do later this year is pick up an XR head and put a Rome 888 in there, playing 44". That's about the only thing I can think about possibly changing. I'm happy with my driver now, but I know from some others on this board, hotmelting the XR makes it one mean, mean animal.

I was pretty set with the MXM #1W as a putter until this past weekend which is why the Ketch is now in play. I haven't even hit the thing yet, but it's in the bag. I played twice this past weekend, had 78 putts through the two rounds. The second round, I hit 16 greens and had 40 putts. Seriously. Shot 76. I wanted to club a baby seal...with my putter. Last time I hit 16 greens I shot 66. I couldn't make anything, ANYTHING inside 4'. If you counted up the total length of putts made, I bet is was less than 25' for the day. I missed at least 4 putts inside 4'. Didn't make anything longer than that all day long. I had multiple birdie putts from probably 6-12' and didn't make a single one. The only one I made all day was about 2.5'. Funny thing too, it was a replica course and the 10th hole is the replica of the 17th from Sawgrass. First time playing the course and I put it to 2.5'.

Much appreciated Leif, and thanks to you for some of the goods ;)
