Tour Cameron rust bucket off to SC for resto

I picked up this putter off the bay a few days ago and just got it in the mail today, the rust looked awful in the listing but seller stated he would accept return if I was not satisfied so I pulled the trigger. It's said to be made for David Duval and the back story and time frame of when this putter was made fits early 2000's. I was a big Duval fan growing up and had been looking for a tour player Scotty for a few years.

So I called the custom shop and asked a few questions on the authentication and resto process since I wanted to keep the original shaft and Ping grip for memorabilia and was not sure if they would authenticate w/o it. John at SC was awesome to talk to, told me that he understood and said to send the head in, even said its possible that it would be shown to Scotty to see if he recalled the putter.

After that I decided to give the head a quick bath and see if some of the rust would come off, as you can see a little vinegar/water mix and dawn dish soap did the trick. A large portion of the rust came off easily and it looks to be in very good shape, I didnt want to brush to hard or it would probably all have come off. I have already packaged up the head and shipping it out to SC tomorrow for Auth/Resto. Can't wait to get it back and put it in the bag...

Sure was, I saw he sold another DD Newport beach for much lower the week prior and negotiated off that price. I think what I paid was fair given the claim that it was made for DD.

I saw that also.. I went back and forth with him a little bit, but didn’t work out. Good pick up though if you are happy with the price.

Ok so I got the putter back a few weeks ago and was back to new condition. I have been gaming it for the last 2 weeks and must say I'm impressed. The feel is much more soft/solid then my Mil-Spec Newport but the head was a bit lighter, one strip of lead tape and in business. This one will be in the bag for a while.

Good call on the Authentication, I forgot to mention. So originally they said they would show it to Scotty and if he said he made it for Duval they would put that on the Cert of Auth. Well I spoke with the rep the day before they shipped it out and I asked about this specifically and he said "You're all set, it came out beautiful". Well when I get the putter and cert back, it says made for tour, but nothing specifically about Duval. I'm confident it was and planned to game it either way but would have been nice to see it on the paper!

If says made for tour, that's pretty solid on authentication, not common practice to name actual player on it for most that send in- congrats!?

Wow...putter turned out great! I understand the perspective of keeping tour sticks all original and not wanting to restore it...but you did the right thing because you're going to enjoy the putter more in its restored condition than you would have otherwise. I have a first generation Tour Mil Spec that I restored in black. It had already be stamped by the CS with my initials, I knew I'd never sell it, and I knew I'd like it more in black than pro platinum. Three years later, no regrets.

Congrats on the stick! Game the p*ss out of it!
