DeChambeau New Posture?

Anyone notice that DeChambeau is moving to a more traditional posture in 2020? He doesn’t stand as tall anymore, and the arms and club are no longer in a perfectly straight line. There’s a noticeable angle there now, much more like a “traditional posture”.

He’s still very straight with putting and still using one-length irons, but I’ve been noticing his posture isn’t so “extreme” anymore. Check out video from him back in 2016/2017 and you’ll see the dramatic difference. He used to stand pretty upright and very close to the ball back then with arms/club very straight in line.

The new distance has much more to do with changes in the swing rather than the new exercise routine.

Edit: this is my way of saying yes, I’ve noticed too.

His putting stance looks like the putter is practically vertical, though. I'm guessing his putter is at max USGA of 80 degrees lie angle.

He looked brilliant mid round.

Hopefully he can get that same game going tomorrow and bench press that trophy!

He also made some adjustments to his arm orientation at setup. He talked about it on Swing Expedition on Golf Pass a bit.

Looks like he's also weakened his grip even more. I don't recall ever seeing such a weak grip at the elite level he's operating at.

I think his goal is to eliminate the left side of the course when he wants to. With his new arm setup and weak grip, he can effectively work as hard as possible to hook the ball but it’ll go straight or fade. Basically gripping the club to the limit of his joint rotational movement. I understand it from a swing perspective, but I wonder if that’s going to put unnecessary stress on the joints.

I suspect he's going to try to slowly sneak back to a traditional setup and hope no one notices.

That's sort of what it feels like! There's no way you dislike DeChambeau more than you could dislike Reed. DeChambeau is at least a nice dude (albeit quirky sometimes).

I contacted SIK Golf and, if anyone is interested, his putter specs are: 43" length, 7* loft, 78* lie angle, with the LP180 putter shaft from LA Golf.

I suspect he stays 2* away from 80* so he doesn't have to worry at all about using a non-conforming putter if it were to naturally bend a little bit through normal usage.

Good for him for making the change! Watch out, he might be unbeatable if he switches to traditional length irons.

I think he's done just fine with the current irons.

He sure was hammering it on Sunday.

He's going to continue to tinker until he dies, not just with equipment but with every aspect of his game. If it works for him at the time he will do it and will continue to play around to find another advantage somewhere else. Don't expect this current swing to be the last iteration we see from him.

Yeah, that is his method of madness, but it works. He is currently #14 in the world.

What people don't realize is every Pro is constantly tinkering with every part of their game. Whether it be swing changes, equipment changes, posture, alignment, whatever... they are all changing--sometimes week-to-week. Bryson is just in the spotlight because of his unique approach to the game and the "mad scientist" character the PGA Tour has made him. He's also more vocal about changes than other Pro's. However, I'd argue he's not tinkering with stuff any more than a lot of other guys out there.

Remember, Tiger has overhauled his swing like 6 times throughout his career.

I don't think all the different crazy things he does really matters. He'd be the same player regardless. It only works because he believes it works. That's 90% of golf.

Everyone has that in them to a degree. I play standard grips, except for my driver. In my mind, I truly believe I drive the ball better using a midsize grip. So guess what, I drive the ball better using a midsize grip.
