I'm happy with my Odyssey #9 series right now, but I keep on staring at the new line of both putters. Wanting to hear opinions as well.

They have a slightly different shape so it'll be a preference thing on looks as well as feel.

Odyssey is a bit flat after the topline where the Cameron has more of a bulge and roll after the topline. Odyssey also has an alignment line parallel to the topline which some people dislike.

Odyssey is carbon where the Cameron is SS. Carbon feels "softer" to most people.

Odyssey also has a tungsten weight on the end of the flange which supposedly helps lower the center of gravity on the putter and help initate a "truer" roll.

I own an Odyssey #9 and really like it. I've played around with the Cameron #9 in the store and thought it was an excellent putter, but didn't think it was "superior" to the #9. I will say the deeper milling on the 2012 Del Mar does make it "feel" softer.

I have a few CT Camerons which I adore, but Odyssey made a quality product with their Tour Series Black.

On the used market...it's a no brainier that Ofyssey is the better value unless you needSS or prefer the head shape.

I have both the new Del mar deep milled and the Odyssey Black tour # 9. Both are excellent and have great feel so I think it really comes down to preference. I seem to make more puts with the Odyssey and it feels softer to me so I have more confidence with it. The fact that I got it for almost $200 less than the Cameron makes it nice too. Right now if I had to pick one to make a put it would be the Odyssey, I seem to line it up a bit better for some reason. Both are really nice putters so it's hard to go wrong either way.

Similar here. I had the original Cali Del Mar, not the 2012, and still have an Odyssey Black Tour #9. The Cali looked more elegant with the higher toe, rounder, smoother flange and cavity, but I preferred the carbon feel of the Odyssey and also the "T" alignment aid which I know people hate. When it came down to it, I just made more putts with the Odyssey.

Functionally you're looking at two high quality putters here and the biggest differences mostly boil down to some visual preferances. LIke others have mentioned the Odyssey is a bit flatter looking from address compared to the more rounded flowing lines of the Del Mar. Standard site line vs. 'T' site line, high toe on the Del Mar, etc. The 39 head is made from carbon steel which tends to have a more muted sound at impact, and many say it feels softer as well compared to the stainless steel Del Mar. The deeper face milling of the 2012 Del Mar does lessen the click compared to last year's model a bit I feel.

Can't go wrong either way.

I have a California Del Mar and a Cleveland Classic 2 (#9 style), both excellent putters that never quite made me feel like I had to game either one. I recently picked up a Black Series TD #9, and that may make a serious push to be in the bag. I think the Odyssey is a beautiful putter, but I really love the feel and performance of it. So my vote currently goes for the Odyssey, but one obviously can't go wrong with the Del Mar either (and for that matter, the $40 like-new Cleveland Classic #2 I picked up is a steal, but it is up against some heavyweights).

  • 3 months later...

I just tested the Odyssey Tour Black #9 vs. the Scotty Cameron Del Mar last week (I had never seen this thread). I have numerous putters, including a limited edition black Scotty Cameron Newport 2, so price was not a consideration. I wanted the blade-like set-up of my Arnold Palmer 'Original', but with more forgiveness and a softer feel. Both putters were nice, but in my opinion the Odyssey was the clear choice. It wasn't even close! The Odyssey had a much softer feel, had a lower profile (didn't like the high toe on the Cameron), rolled the ball better, and had much more appealing overall look. Never thought I would choose an odyssey over a Cameron, but in this case it was an easy choice! The Odyssey Tour Black #9 is a pretty badass stick. I highly recommend you roll one if you ever get the chance!

NOTE: The pictures in this thread are of the Odyssey ProType not the Tour Black, which can be seen here:

I ended up getting rid of my California Del Mar. The Odyssey BS TD #9 was clearly a better putter to me, and the Cleveland Classic #2 is just an incredible deal at its price. I would gladly play either one regularly, though both are currently bumped by a Ping Redwood D66 that I am rolling great.

I will agree with what has been said previous. I just tried the Odyssey Tour Black #9 against the Cameron Del Mar Cali and I thought the Odyssey felt quite a bit better, couple that with the fact you can now pick up the Odyssey Tour Black at Golfsmith starting this week for $99.98 it was a no brainer!!!!

I have both 2012 Del mar and Odyssey BSTD #9 .... I am being silly. I'm playing my Del mar because it's a Scotty BUT the #9 is just a better putter. shape, feel ...everything. The only think I don't like about the #9 is that it's TOO soft. I find with longer putts; I really need to 'clobber' it.

I have both the Black TD # 9 and the Sea Mist Del Mar. While the Cameron is a sweet putter the Odyssey performs better.
The black series putters right now are the best bang for the buck, hands down.

I would like to order a 34", but are the loft/lie the same with the 2012 Del Mar and the Odyssey #9?

Im a long time Black i9 user. Been gaming it since the day it came out. My specs are 35.5" 2.5* loft and 73.25 Lie angle. I love this stick. For me i control my distances great and get such a nice feel and feedback with it. No sense in changing.

The Black Tour Designs series for $99 is a steal. Nothing can beat the glory of the Del Mar but value wise Oddysey wins.

Exact same story here. Used a white ice #9 for 2 years and now have been using my Del mar for 2 years and I love it. Only thing I've even considered is a refinish or buying the newer version :)
