LPGA Major at Augusta? Yes, No?

This is all a silly fantasy.

There are only two sets of tees at ANGC. The LPGA Tour could only play the members tees; otherwise used by the septuagenarian and octogenarian members. Which would only call attention to the ladies’ fundamental distance differences.

As pointed out already, the course is closed in the summer. They are often using that time for one or more of their regular renovations, which may extend into the fall.

And the fall is the only time when the Ladies’ Tour schedule could possibly be adapted to such an event, but even then it would require too much. The ladies play the Evian in France in September; and they go to Korea in October.

Finally, the fall half-season is an important time for membership events at ANGC; their Jamboree is in the fall. For another major, they wouldn’t be giving up their club for four days. It would be more like three weeks.

It’s not happening, for these and a hundred other reasons.

How long are the members tees? If too short they could likely play a combination of the championship and members and get a playable distance. Everyone know they are shorter so that is not an issue. The calendar is the biggest issue they would face with Augusta closed all summer.

I’m honestly shocked at the ignorance of some of these comments.

To think the ladies can’t shoot respectable scores when it’s set up at a reasonable yardage is laughable.

The green complexes are bordering on insane for modern day green speeds, but certainly top LPGA players can shoot par or better there.

I don't think they can.

Well, if a scratch golfer can break 85 from the tournament tees and a 4 handicap guy can hang with an LPGA player... :beruo:

Host a US Women's Open at Augusta.

Move the tournament up a couple of weeks into mid-May. This gives you a full month to prepare after the Masters which is plenty of time. The hotter drier conditions in May will hammer home a US Open feel.

Use the member tees which are anywhere from 6200-6400 yards and very appropriate for the event.

Have the Memebership at ANGC conduct the tournament so the USGA can't screw it up.

It's a win-win-win.

Or

Don't host a Women's professional event at all, because it's a private club, this is America, and it's their call.

I'm looking forward to the Masters press conference this year. I hope the press comes prepared with some good questions about a ladies professional event at Augusta National. I think they were unprepared last year when the ladies amatuer was announced.

"Mr. Chairman, when are you going to allow the court of public opinion to force your private club into hosting a Women's LPGA event? They've asked for it several times, so it's only fair that you should give it to them"

Once again, why does it have to be at Augusta? The Masters is special because of what they made it. It is not only the course but the tradition. Pave your own path.

There are many amazing and absolutely beautiful courses at different times of the year with many different kinds of foliage, think of Bandon and the horse blooming, the NE in fall (I believe) and the leaves changing color, etc. Most of us live in a Vast and amazingly beautiful country, take advantage. Create their own tradition, some place that wants and welcomes them.

Maybe something like, "Mr. Chairman, you have gratiously opened the grounds of Augusta National for the Junior golfer to compete. For 84 years you've hosted a Men's competition. And this year you've invited the Worlds top Amatuer Women's golfers to the grounds. Are there any plans to invite the one segment of golf that appears to be left out, the Women's professional, to the grounds for a competition?"

US Open’s need to be played on public courses don’t they?
