Kuchar/El Tucan caddie controversy (NO POLITICS)

Recommended Posts

I really hope Matt Kuchar has learned a valuable lesson from all this...including all golfers who use a caddy..

Oh, I’m certain they will. The SJWs and MSM will have moved on to demonize some other target for a perceived injustice while the players fly friends or family in to avoid the conflict in the future.

And yet another self-serving feel-good story that benefits few will have negative repercussions for many.

My final analysis on where Matt went wrong:

1. he didn't pay his caddy enough considering he won almost $1.3M.

2. he demeaned the man's character by insinuating later that considering he was only making $200/week he should have been happy with $5000

3. he was in total denial in the beginning that what he did was not right.

4. his gesture of ultimately giving in to the original r]demand of $50T does not come out as genuine--he only did it when the s*** hit the fan.

5. he only gave the minimum eventually...and still comes out as cheap.

"That is not who I am and not what I want to represent ... "

Kuchar had months to fix it, and didn't. He even had the chance a few days ago and still belittled Ortiz

Probably best to let your actions show what you represent, and with all the support around Kuchar, really strange that nobody stood up and told him right from wrong

Well said. I cringe when I hear the cop out, “this is not who I am.”

…..or the cop out, "a deal is a deal". Hardly when you are not on the same level, let me see....successful PGA pro vs non-US low grade caddy from a developing country.....hmmm, someone has the upper hand in making the deal here and it wasn't Ortiz. Kind of like going into a restaurant with a group and asking the waiter ahead of time, would you be satisfied with a $20 tip?....and the guy says "sure".....and then you and your group proceeds to generate a $2,500 dinner bill. "A deal is a deal"? or would that be a shmuck who set that up?

While I think Kuch was cheap, being cheap isn't a crime nor does it make you a bad person. Plenty of good cheap people. El Tucan is also culpable here because he shouldn't have accepted a deal he couldn't live with. Seems he was okay until Gillis peed in the pool. What I didn't like was Kuchars comments about "for a guy that makes $200..." Anyway I'm gonna give Matt a pass given that people can say dumb things when their on the defensive. Also all accounts heard from people on tour is that Kuch is a really good guy which was also backed by a well respected member here on wrx.

Nice post BD?

I’m glad that Matt got a nice response in Mexico City this week??

It’s seems like everything’s good and I know that Matt Kuchar learned a lesson, and probably a few lessons, because more than the initial $5,000 payout, I too was most bothered by his subsequent comments regarding El Touc’s weekly earnings however I really believe that it was said out of ignorance versus malice or any deep seated character flaw.

Kuch made good with his subsequent words and more importantly his actions with El Toucan and as I said elsewhere, I don’t think that anything has been said or done by either man that a smile, a hug & a check cannot fix and I would love to see the Toucster on Kuch’s bag in his title defense next year.

There is karma and both of these guys deserve that!

Take care BD & have a great season?

I'm extremely surprised that all of the members who said that Tom Gillis would not prevail have not returned to retract their statements. Gillis said that the court of public opinion would judge and that the caddie would be made whole. Dead nuts on.

He prevailed but it doesn't make his conduct proper or noble. I mean if others pay is his business then why stop at caddies? Why not all the workers that supported the tournament? Cabbies and limo drivers, bartenders, waiters, grounds keepers etc? And those "volunteers" they're really getting hosed for no pay and having to buy a uniform to support a multi-billion $ behemoth! Come on Gillis be consistent!
