9 x 2 or 18?

If you were looking at playing 18, would you by-pass any course that is just 9 holes? I know some folks that won't play a 9 hole course 2X to get the 18 and some use it to see if they can better their first 9 score on the second time through? Me, I will play a challenging or interesting 9 h 2X, but a boring 9 h, I will not.

i’ll play a 9 hole course if that’s all

i have time for. if i have time for 18

or the possibility for the time if the round goes quickly i will play a course that has 18

holes. if i take my daughter (5) out we usually go to a little 9 hole course unless she says she wants to play where all the birds and turtles are! both places do not charge me for her even though they probably should maybe for insurance? so i’m fine with which ever she decides and when i do take her we take a cart just incase she gets uninterested she can sit and relax for a little before she’s ready to go again.amnn17odv0op.gif

always takes a practice swing. she says because it’s what tiger woods does haha

Since the PGA at Bethpage the Yellow course has been 9 holes only. The way they've routed it is amazing two par 5's, two par3's and the best par4's (I think) on the course. Plus, the first hole is literally a warmup hole (shortish par 4) on the scorecard. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a nine hole setup more.

My feeling is that a 9-hole course would get REALLY crowded, really quickly if this were a thing but in principle I would appreciate the chance to go back and see if I could do as well or better the 2nd time through. I also like the idea of changing tee boxes the 2nd time through. That's a good idea.

I typically play a 9 hole Chicago muni course that's laid out along Lake Michigan. Little over 3,000 yds from the white tees (70.5 / 125) which is plenty for a senior like me. Most days its just 9 holes but occasionally I will make a second loop. Being retired, I play during the week and avoid the really congested prime times / weekends.

I almost prefer playing 9 holes at a time anyway. Some days 18 is just a little too much and I'd rather play 9 holes 2 days in a row, or maybe just 12. It's getting to be that time of the year where I'll go out to my local track for twilight around 530m and just play til the sun goes down, usually can easily fit 12 in. Avoid weekends if I can during the summer.

2 X 9 is no problem for me... Except- BOTH of the 9 holers that I've played since I was a kid don't give priority to those playing 18. You wait as if you just arrived. So you could wait an hour or more between 9's- even as a single. If you time it right, though, you can go out later and get back to the first after the crowds are gone and pretty much play by yourself.

I can't remember the last time I played a 9-hole course. There was an 18-hole course near me, that I used to play fairly often, that closed about a year ago. However, six months later it reopened as a 9-hole course. I had no desire to play it in its new incarnation, and apparently I wasn't alone. About 2 months ago the new 9-holer closed its doors.
