Driver shafts for those who use C Taper 130

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, over here in the UK it's really difficult to try the range of shafts you guys are used to in the USA, so I'm hoping you can help. I have been to good club fitters but most are indoor and I could do with narrowing down a few options before I try again.

I am known for being a great iron player and I put a lot of this down to my C Taper shafts. For me, they're unbeatable. Someone even persuaded me to try a PX LZ Steel last year with a 2i and all I could do was hit it high and right. As soon as the C Taper 130 went in; hey presto, as good as my other irons. It was a complete waste of time trying the LZ Steel!

Having said all that I'm experiencing a lot of problems with my driver, which leads me to the question:

For those who use C Taper 130 shafts, what driver set ups are you currently gaming?

Surely there's someone out there who equally loves C Tapers but has struggled with finding a driver shaft too - I want to hear from you. Are there driver shafts which have similar characteristics?

Other relevant info:

Usual miss is a high block fade

110mph SS

Looking for a ball flight slightly on the lower side

Thanks in advance for your help. I'm hoping I can make the switch like I did with my 2i and find the fairway again!

p.s search came up no good, so either I'm unique or others will be interested too!

I was using the C-Taper S+ 125g and I use the Grafalloy Blue (White) in X tipped 3/4"

Driver SS 112MPH

its a 65g shaft but with low torque(2.8) so the fact that you block fade miss this could potentially help you release the club but still maintain a low torque so not to kick the ball left (righty)

I also tried the Aldila Tour Blue which felt great but launched a little high for my eye.

Matrix Black Tie is also a Low/Low shaft, I don't have much experience with it though.

good luck with the search

I have a buddy that plays the CT's and he uses the Diamana White board in his Callaway DBD driver. Has certainly helped him control his flight and dispersion. He has tried the Aldila Rouge Silver in a few of the newer drivers and this worked well for him also.

Another who goes 120's straight in, but could likely go 130's with no problem. I've got whiteboards throughout the top of the bag in 70, 80, and 90 gram varieties. I top out at 112-114 mph when warm and ready.

I'd take a look at UST Elements Platinum or Tensei White in the high 70s or 80s for weight. From what I've read both have great feel which might go good with that KBS smoothness.

I play C-TAPER 130x and use Mitsubishi Tensei Pro Orange 70tx in the driver. Nice launch with incredibly low spin, just like c-taper.

I've heard a lot about this shaft and I've heard a couple of C-Taper users are gaming it too - perhaps something to do with the counter balancing? Pretty sure C-Tapers are counter balanced too?

Only problem is you will not find one of these shafts for sub £400 over here. Man, I'd never even heard of it and I'm a club geek!

Just makes me think... what other 'counter balanced' driver shafts are out there...?

I have 130x in my TA Protos, I play my driver shafts between 65 and 75g, I always get them tipped 1" and playing length at 44.5", my swing speed is the same as yours...now I am playing all Ping and the stock Alta 55 X Flex shaft is giving me the best numbers compared to my other 2 shafts (Diamana WB D+ 72x and Rogue Silver 125 MSI Tour 60x), on trackman and on the course the Alta gives me better spin numbers, dispersion and distance, not by an amazing margin but better in overall performance...

DRIVER: Callaway AI Smoke TD 10.5*, Ventus TR Blue 6TX at 45"

7 WOOD: Callaway Paradym 21*, Tensei AV white 75g S Flex, tipped 1" at 41"

It's a phenomenal golf shaft with a ton of technology. Ultra low spin but still smooth and managable feeling. It has a fiber called MR70 in the tip section as well as a DuPont Kevlar handle. If you look at the ei graph you'll also see the amazing linearity of the bend profile which adds to the feeling of a shaft that doesn't have a "kick point" but loads as one connected unit, very much like a ctaper or project x sensation. Yes it isn't an inexpensive piece, but the very best of things in life never are. Don't cheat yourself, give one a try. The cost of a shaft is never my consideration, because frankly I work hard everyday and I deserve to play the very best. I won't cheat myself or my game out of a superior product because of a few dollars. I feel I deserve better than that, and you should too.

Some fair points made, but you can't even find them over here. Not a single one on the Bay on this side of the Atlantic and largely unknown to club fitters! It's a real rare one. I will look, though.

Any other counterbalanced driver shafts worth trying? I hear the Yellow hzrdus is decent apart from the graphics!
