I have a hamilton that love as my everyday, but looking to pick up something a little dressier for certain occasions. Anyone have opinions on Frederique Constant watches, seem to be respected in a lot of online communities?

FC uses a mixture of in house movements and purchased ETA and sellita movements. The 7xx and 9xx series watches I believe are the in house movements and priced much higher than the other ones. I like the style of them and they seem to fill a niche with lower priced manufacture movements then some others like JLC. I like their manufacture pieces but their other pieces are just akin to a Hamilton or Tissot. Kinda mixed feelings about them I guess. For not much more you can buy a more respected brand like JlC and for their low end pieces there are dozens of options at that price point. Id do some research on their service pipeline and warranty before I buy. The non manufacture pieces have movements that probably can be serviced by any decent watchsmith with parts widely available but their in house stuff probably has to go back to them for service so you are stuck with whatever they charge. A basic service every 5 years probably gonna be $5-$600 from FC whereas the others probably a couple hundred less from an Independent.

Been a busy last few weeks!

Love the Rolex's one of these days I'll be getting one myself (Still wish I could've bought that Explorer off you!) but that is one of the coolest Timex's I've ever seen. Nice pickups!

If anyone is interested in that Tudor I posted a couple pages back I may be willing to let it go. Got my eye on something new.

Man I like that Tudor a lot but I literally just bought a Shinola last week as an impulse purchase while in the Venice Beach Shinola brick and mortar. 2 watches in a week would be grounds for divorce lol

my buddy has one but I haven't really dealt with one up close. Shinola, in their stores, has a build you own combination. so I could pick the face and the strap. I've wanted a better looking rubber strap piece for a while now. So I built, what I think, is a pretty cool looking combo of a gray face chronograph with orange hands and a blue rubber strap.

Up close in the store and now wearing it for a week, I am surprised by how good the quality is on these watches. It looks great, feels great and wears great. I always put them in the Victorinox and Tissot category (I own 2 Victorinox watches and a Tissot). But after owning the Shinola, I think it's a half step, or even full step above. Very happy with the purchase. And it's American(ish) made too boot lol.

That's really cool that you can build your own combination. I find myself saying "this watch would be awesome if had this" a lot so that concept appeals to me quite a bit. I love the Tudor but I find myself missing the rubber strap that I had on my IWC (the watch I traded to get this). I wear my Omega every day to work so I want to find something a little more casual than the Tudor. Particularly one with a nice comfortable rubber strap.

I have a Navitimer bought in 2000 for my 30th. I have just inherited my fathers omega from the day he got married.

I don't want any of his money in his will, however I want to use that to buy 2 watch s for my son and daughter, aged 13 & 16. I'd like to get these engraved in his memory. I know that will reduce the value, however I want them to be forever watches and something they will remember their grandad.

What would you recommend and where should I purchase if I go the used. Was thinking of either IWC, Rolex or Omega

Thoughts.......

Sent you a PM, but I'm thinking Rolex. Just depends on how much you are wanting to spend. Engraving is very cool, I wanted to do that for my son but the watch I bought for him had a clear caseback LOL

These are my watches

The TAG was the first watch my wife bought

The Navitimer was again a gift from the wife for my 30th

The Omega was my fathers watch I just inherited:(

They will all go to my son, plus what I posted above

I love that TAG Professional. It's a simple, solid workhorse of a watch.

I broke the clasp on it way back - funny story

I was chasing our puppy Rottweiler around the garden, hiding and being stupid

I ran full belt down the driveway, into the back garden, launched myself from the wall and forgot there was a clothesline.

Cue me stopping dead in my tracks as my neck and arms took all of the force and it broke the clasp.

Me, well all the family pissed themselves laughing as I lay motionless, completely winded and the dog with a "stupid git" look on his face.

I've really started to like the look of the Tissot Seastar 1000 Chronographs for a daily work watch, cheaper price point (800-1000) as well for a "dive" watch.

So the IWC wasn't meshing with me. Much too big for my taste. Traded it in for this little guy instead.

I wouldnt call that little...wears pretty big for a 41mm. Just picked up a new Tudor Black Bay Black (not the murdered out Dark) w in-house (its a little thicker than the ETA). You really don't understand Tudor till you put one on - took me to try one on and you're like "Ohhhhhhh.."

If you're looking for a Rolex, Omega, Tudor, IWC...the only place to really go to is Serge at ChiTown watch for the person who asked above. He sells AD watches for quite a bit less than you'll get from your best AD brick and mortar store. Very well respected on WatchUseek and other sites.

You're right it's not necessarily little but much smaller compared to IWC Aquatimer I had before it, really great watch. I'll have to check that guy out thanks for the info.

Where's the best place to pick up a used Tag online? What about buy new with best price?

Chrono trader for used.. Jomashop for new.

Easy decision to go with Serge or DavidSW over Jomashop (they will both source new condition if they don't have it). Grey market warranties are barely worth with the paper they are printed on. Serve and David sell AD certified and stamped warranties that are new. they can either beat or VERY closely match JomaShop prices. You won't find a single sane person upset with either of those guys on watchforums.
