Loving the beautiful timepieces. I've always loved watches, but have always hated wearing them. I wear a simple Casio Wave Ceptor solar as my "daily driver" and a Movado as a dress watch, but I'm living vicariously through all of you. I work at NASA, so my dream watch is an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch (co-axial chrono meteorite: https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/the-omega-grey-side-of-the-moon-meteorite).

Thanks! It’s a nice change from the traditional blacks and dark blues you usually find. Once I saw it I had to get one.

I like the unique ones and they can sometimes be had at a much better price due to the limited audience.If I wanted to be like everyone else, I'd just buy the navy blue Seamaster like everyone else has. Have had vintage Rolex and sadly, they didn't compare to the Omega's I've owned.

My father passed last year and I decided if I was fortunate to have been left anything after the care home took most in his last year, then I’d ensure my kids got a forever watch.

 

I wanted them to have something to remember him by, so they picked the following. Both great choices and not sure if I’ve posted before but here goes and apologies if already posted

they tools. not jewels. wear in good health and don't worry about the abuse. the vintage pieces i avoid swimming in but all the moderns is go full throttle: cave diving, underwater diving, everything short of a boxing match but that's cuz i'm not a fighter.

I'm a desk jockey during the day, and even though I get really tempted to keep my Sub on my wrist while doing yard work, home renovations, and jeep oil changes - I always bring myself to take it off.

 

Mine has only minimal 'desk diving' marks on the clasp.

Rolex USED to be tools, when they were non-ceramic bezels and were $5k new and you could buy one at any time at the jewelry store or on vacation at a shop. Now Rolex is a shiny $10k 'jewelry' piece not to be messed up or scuffed.

 

Rolex is moving Tudor into the 'tool watch' sector to take their old place.

I disagree. A man does not wear jewels. I have a 50 dollar stainless steel wedding band that I honestly think I overpaid for.

I'm with ya man, if I can't walk into an AD and buy a $10,000 commodity right then and there - there's a problem somewhere. I blame Rolex's made-up supply issues. Bleh.

 

This isn't a good time to take up bourbon collecting, either, in that same regard.

 

But to back me up in regards to Rolex moving to a piece of jewelery instead of a tool; there is a guy who is sandblasting ceramic bezels now for new model Submariners and etc to make them look more like the 'tool watch' days. LA Watchworks does it, here's an example from another forum:

I can get Yamazaki year-round, just gotta pay the piper...I think the 18 runs about 380-420$ shipped and the 12 around $120-140
