Guys:

 

Dropped one of my watches off to be services and the jewelry store just started carrying Ressence Watches.

 

Cheapest one in the display was $28K.

 

Do a search for those....I'll never own one.

 

Aren't those the ones that have a liquid inside the dial?

 

Apparently...and I promise after looking at the dial for a few minutes I couldn't figure out how to tell what the time was.

Ok, need some help from the crowd. I'm looking for a decent skeleton watch for under $500. Anybody have any recommendations or are most quality skeleton watches in the higher price ranges?

 

BTW those Ressence Watches are cool looking but I agree, they are difficult to read.

 

 

Found a few threads at watchuseek.com that talk about it. Sounds like the best way to go is to get a cheapo and see if you like it then save up for a good quality one.

Well I decided to go with this guy. It's not the fanciest piece but it is perfect for me. This is my first real watch and I really liked the skeleton watches. Since this one is a Fossil it has an 11 year warranty so if anything breaks I just bring it back and let them fix it.

It is made in China, but I have read that the movement is Japanese.

I liked this one because it is really easy to read with the blue hands instead of silver hands on some other skeleton watches. I also like that this is an automatic and I don't need to replace a battery or anything. Plus it is affordable enough that I can wear it everyday and not worry about losing big money or scratching a Rolex.

Anyway, I am pretty happy with it and hope it lasts all 11+ years.

Hamilton makes some nice watches. Good choice. I think that ETA movement is pretty reliable.

Just bought a minty Oris Aquis with the dark blue face and black ceramic bezel withe the rubber strap. Should arrive in a few days, I got it for about 1/2 of MSRP. to me it's the best dive watch out there that is somewhat reasonably priced, and it is a classic look with modern rugged touches. Without being a homage.

Oris designs a great watch, top value for what they deliver, I think. I got a chronograph with day and date, sweet watch.

Great choice, Oris is definitely one of the most fairly priced watch brands out there! I really like the look of the Aquis as well, great choice!

Keeping it simple these days. Solar powered, atomic timekeeping, and 200m resistant. Best thing about the AWGM100B is that it's smaller than a normal G-Shock but bigger than a Baby-G....perfect for guys with smaller wrists.

Pretty cool. I've seen the same with the brushed metal bezel but not the all black. My G Shock is my everyday beater. It's a non-atomic but ridiculously accurate and bulletproof.

You're going to LOVE it. If you call yourself a "watch guy" then you MUST own a speedmaster at some point. Did you buy new or is it vintage?

 

I was considering jumping on the #speedytuesday edition but the fiancee was NOT having it. I love the dial and the lume. I will regret not buying that in a few years

A regular Portugese in rose gold is on my "To Buy" list at some point. Just trimmed down my collection to acquire a PVD Pan a few months ago and now I'm wanting to trim it down to only a select couple.

 

I've had the chance to handle some fine pieces form Jaeger and Zenith over the past few years as my best friends family owns a very high end jewelry shop and had some rare pieces like a Christophe Colomb and Gyrotourbillon ($350k and $200k). Same guy bought both of them....he was nice enough to let us play with them a bunch though, the engineering is remarkable.

 

Zenith and the el Primero line may be the most underestimated watch in it's class. The all in house movement is phenomenal.

Sold my Tag Twin Time recently and picked up the Seiko Sarb 33. It came with a great band but I love it with the black/grey Nato strap.

 

Only downside is not being able to see the movement on the back.

Haven't bought a watch lately. I think I may have posted these last year or so. The first, a Wittnauer from 1947, was my Dad's ($35 back then) watch, given to me when I was in high school. It's still in very nice condition, only been repaired twice since I had it. The last time, in 1990, the full deal, including a dial refinish, cost $53 with tax. I put the lizard band later, $16.

 

The second is a SS Rolex Datejust from 1978, around $300.

 

The third is a Vostok Russian automatic, bought around 1995 for $20 on mail order clearance. I use the Vostok most, started losing around five minutes a day recently.

 

I also have a white gold Longines tank watch from 1960 or so. I bought it at a yard sale for a dollar. Needed a crystal and a new band, watch was running and still running today.

 

When cleaning out my father in laws stuff when he passed, I found a 18K Enicar. Needs a restoration, my next of kin can worry about it. I post a picture of what a nice gold plated one looks like.

 

Also, I have an Elgin pocket watch from my grandfather in mint condition. He never wore it, and I never wore it. I doubt whoever gets it next will ever wear it.

 

You fellows have really beautiful watches. I always wanted a Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso, really a beautiful tank watch.

 

The huge watches in fashion today are like wearing a Big Ben alarm clock on your wrist, my opinion.

Hey - have you ever tried to mod any of your Seikos? I have been looking to build my 5 with the fifty fathoms mod. I haven't pulled the trigger yet.
