The plate allows access to add weight to the head (hot melt). The access hole is threaded, so the plate is held in place by double sided tape and a FCT screw to keep the plate in place. The FCT screw is also used to hold a shaft into a TM head.

It's all about simply and demand. If you think the prices for TM Tour stuff is jacked up, could you imagine the prices if Titleist and Scotty Cameron decided to do the same thing and sold For Tour Use Only putters and head covers?

I just got mine today also. Great looking head, but really light, about 188g without the adapter. No screw in the hole toe side, it was left open. No big deal though I guess as I had a spare adapter screw.
