shafts like x100 that don't hurt

Recommended Posts

I've searched a little but want most up to date opinions. Love Dynamic x 100 and s400 but always end up hurting my wrists and elbows. What would be the closest to playing like x100 but smoother feeling and less vibration.

Modus 3 no good,

How about super peening blue?

Hit 1150 Nippon x but soft and light

Hit steel fibres and they were pretty good. The 110 s worried better for me then X

Tried a few graphite but always dumped before impact and seemed wider dispersion.

I swing driver 110 and 6 iron about 82-84

Thoughts?

If you want the pain to go away, graphite is the best options. As you've found stay away from the stock graphite options. The steelfibers are a good graphite options and come in 110 or 125 gm. Other graphite options to look for would be the UST recoils (probably the proto's if you're looking for something similar to x100) also available in 110 or 125 gm versions. Also Aldila nv 105 iron shafts or the rip tour 115's.

I should preface this by saying I don't know jack about shafts except for what I read here. I can tell you that as a 45 y.o. that didn't play for 20 years, and has a higher s.s. than you, the Black Gold Xs I have in my irons are really smooth. I can take a crater too with them and I haven't had any trouble with my wrists or forearms. I did notice a bit of reduction in feel off the face over my old irons that had S500 shafts in them, but my old irons were Golden Ram blades, and my current ones are forged cavity backed Srixons so it could be a little of both contributing to the reduction. I do have an X100 Sensicore in my 2 iron and I don't really think the Sensicore does squat. The shaft is way harsh compared to the Black Golds. Maybe someone will chime in about the BGs that knows something.

Hope that helps you in some way.

The KBS tour x's are very smooth as are X-100 SL's.
82-84 with a 6 iron is not really all that fast a sp to handle x 100 though.

Long time DG user here, and while I still use X1s, I tried a RIP Tour 115 in S flex and really liked it. I'm not quite ready to reshaft an entire set, but if I did, the RIP Tours would get serious consideration.

I'd vote soft stepped KBS Tour X, perhaps with a Pro Soft insert. An alternative would be a soft stepped X100 Sensicore.

I've switched from DG X100 soft stepped once to C-Taper stiffs. I wasn't having wrist or elbow issues but I feel like the DG X100s feel a little harsh. I also get a better ball flight, especially in the wind, with the C-Tapers.

I kniw it's not all that fast. I'm older now! Lol! It's just what I've always used so that's why I'm looking for something a little smoother.
I've tried SL and I find the duspersion goes all over the map...

Most likely means you're better off sticking with a heavier shaft option.

I don't have much experience with KBS. Everyone seems to like them. How are they different tgen dynamic?
[/quote]

Just a very different feel from Dynamics. The KBS Tour is going to be similar in weight, but feel will be much smoother and they tend to have a higher balance point, so they will swing weight slightly lower than a Dynamic. They will produce a higher launching and spinning trajectory. One thing to be aware of, the KBS are firmer than Dynamic if you go by FM numbers...If I'm not mistaken, a straight in KBS Tour S+ is pretty close to a straight in Dynamic Gold X100.

Over the years, I've played Royal Precision Rifle shafts, Dynamic Gold, standard Project X and now the KBS Tour V and of all of them, the KBS Tour V works best for me as it's the best balanced all around performer. It gives me the higher, penetrating low spin trajectory of the Project X, unlike the Project X, I can play or practice three or four days in a row without irritating my tendonitis and various other physical ailments/injuries which include rheumatoid arthritis, and the Tour V has the lighter weight in stiffer flexes that I liked with the RP Rifles. If you like the standard Dynamic, I'd say the regular KBS Tour is definitely worth a few swings to see if it works for you.

If you can find any SPB Xs, then you should definitely give them a go. Given that they're a discontinued shaft, they are quite hard to source.

I was a diehard X100/S400 man and the SPBs were a revelation. Shocked that they were Nippons. Low launch and similar weight to the TTs. However the super smooth feel and tighter dispersion just blew the TTs away.

I say SteelFiber i125 CW S flex. I played S300 for years and went to the i110 CW R this year since my swing had slowed a bit. Best shaft I believe I have ever played.

I'm most curious about the KBS but if that doesn't work, I'm likely going back to the recoils. Though the steel fibres are definitely a possibility.

I may need to go lighter then the dynamic I've been used to as I'm getting older.... UGH

I'm thinking about getting a set of baby blades made so I really want to be sure on the shafts first...
