What ever happened to square drivers?

i feel like you answered your question in the thread with your first comment. A lot of people just gave them up, including manufacturers for a more traditional driver head style. the demand didnt seem to be as high as they had thought.

i liked square drivers, but not like i cry or anything because they're gone.

I played a Dymo2 for a couple of years and hit it pretty good. I actually like the look at address of the square head. It'd be nice if there was still 1-2 on the market

Same here with the Dymo2...and it didn't sound as bad as that vile Sumo2 (that I am ashamed of hitting for a while).

Tinkered with the Adams Pro DF2400X for a bit....it wasn't entirely square (squarish?) but it was long and stupid forgiving.

Waiiiiit. You lose that much distance? So if carry my old Fti 270 or so (I hit it high so not much run). Your telling me I can carry almost 300? O.O

 

Side note it is so obscenely loud it actually hurts to hit. SQ ain't got nothing on my driver.. And I had an SQ.

A lot of the points have already been covered, but I wonder if it was one of those ideas that was rushed before it was fully fleshed out, got a stigma, then with MOI limits and tech advances was no longer worth pursuing.

 

I can't help but think about how long Couples continued to use that square fairway wood when everyone else had long moved on.

I gave it 6 months. Didn't last long. Honeymoon period of about 2 months. And then it fell off the face of the Earth.

 

 

I will say though, during the "fell off the face of the Earth," phase, it DID garner the longest drive of my career. At Chardonnay Country Club in the Napa Valley, it was the par 5, 9th hole, on one of the three 9's (it was our 18th of the day)....

.... Hole was flat. Whatever the altitude is in Napa Valley, Cali. And wind was blowing 1 full club downwind (roughly 15 yards down wind). Hit a treetop high, no spin, rocket right down the shoot.

I ❤️‘d my Nike Dymo sq. Some of my buddies still say I hit that better when I owned it than I do any of the dozens of drivers I’ve had since then.

Old guy JP played with this morning uses an old Nike square beast. It looked ridiculous but he drove it well.
