Picked up a 52 and 58 on eBay for $130 new with plastic coating on them still.

So I went this morning to demo the Fly 3 wood.

 

I started with one in stiff flex and I was hitting it ok. I could never get it high off the ground (a problem I have with most fairway woods). I was also hitting everything left (another problem I have). I was carrying it anywhere between 230-250. Longest shot with rollout was about 265. Swings speeds were anywhere between 91-102.

 

For the hell of it, I picked up the one with the regular flex shaft in it. Holy crap. I started hitting it straight and loooong. Total distances were from 280-309. I don't trust most launch monitors in big box stores, mainly because I feel the mat help the numbers a good bit. Swing speeds with the R flex were between 104-112. Not only was I hitting the ball long, but I was hitting moonballs.

 

Now I feel like I'm in a mind warp. Every club I've ever been fitted for has been in a stiff flex. Now i'm beginning to question everything lol.

 

(BTW, I'm 5'10 160. Average driver speed with my Covert Tour (stiff flex) is 103 and average carry is about 260)

I had to crank the loft up to 11.5, but its a pretty straight driver so far

great sound too, wow

 

last years was awesome, this year's is even better IMO

Question for you Nike guys. If I order a set of vapor pro combos from nike with c taper lite shafts will these irons still have a swingweight of d2.5 or does the lighter shaft lower this?

I would keep an eye on Sports Authority. I got mine for $85/90. They usually have some sort of 25% off sale going on and if you sign up to receive their emails you can get an additional 10% off.

 

Since golf season is about to start I just replaced my SM5 54* M and 60* M with a 54* square sole and 60* dual sole. Now my Engage wedge set is finally complete!

Drop the driver and get the 3 wood in R. Or find a place with TM outside. What the hell this is WRX, get the driver and 3 wood in R and paint TourX on it! ;)
