I just found this thread about a week ago. That's how long it took me to get through it all from page 1-96!! There is some awesome stuff on here. I wanted to share my bag that I have acquired through the last few years.

 

 

Covert 2.0 Driver 3 & 5 wood and 3 & 4 hybrid. Picked up the set of 2014 Pro Combos on the Bay last fall for $300! Love them so far. Better than the previous years Pro Combos.

I added the Diamana S+ Blue 62 shaft to my driver. Love it!! Plus is that not a sexy look at address.

 

Method 005 putter & Superstroke Camo Grip. I cut the putter down to like 31". It looks weird but that's were I'm comfortable with it.

 

 

This is my boneyard bag. Old clubs I have gone through. Older Pro Combos and VR Cavity.

My favorite are the iron head covers. I have generic ones. Those are really nice.

I got them on Ebay a couple years ago. If you search Nike iron covers there are a couple different ones on there.

I know it's an older nike iron, but I've been hitting the covert forged a lot lately at a local range. They feel awesome. Anyone out there gaming these irons? Am I wasting my time even considering these irons?

 

Are you talking about the vrs covert forged? From 2012 I believe? I play those still. Love the irons. To me other than the tiger woods blades and the Vr pro blades these are some of the best Nike irons made. As Heston said "from my cold dead hands"

 

My wife has even said to me "isn't it about time for new irons?"

 

Me: maybe it's about time I look for a new wife!!

Vapor Fly Pros came in today.

 

Really surprised and shocked (in a good way) by the size of the VFPs. Put them next to the VR Forged Pro Combos and sole is slightly bigger as well as the topline and blade length. But at address, the VFPs look fantastic. Looking forward to putting these in play. It's going to be a good weekend, I definitely have to get at least 2 rounds in and play each set once. In a previous post, I said that the VR Forged PC's were in but now I'm going to take that back. I'm actually really hoping the VFPs will make it in to the bag!

 

 

 

 

 

The look of this iron has really really grown on me. When the first pics came out I was like oh man these things look like *%#^. But as I've seen more and more of them, I like the look. Will be looking forward to your report of the on course performance. Hope they go well for you!

 

 

Pics dont do them justice, they look much better in person. I went to the range to hit just the 7 iron today and compared them to the VR Forged Pro Combo. Honestly, both are fantastic irons. The VFPs imo feel slightly more forgiving on mishits, but the VRFPC's were not far away either in terms of forgiveness. Feel, I'd say the VRFPC's have just a slightly better feel because they are forged. The VFPs feel great too, but the VRFPCs get a slight advantage in this category. I was hitting off range mats so I cant review turf interaction. Ball flight with the VFPs were definitely higher and this is probably mainly due to the XP95's. I felt they were a bit whippy and a bit loose, but nothing too bad. The DG Pros were good, felt good, much more stable than the XP95s. I'll get to gauge my distances better tomorrow when I play with the VFPs.

 

As for now, I'm going to put the VFPs in the gamer bag simply cause they're newer, have a little bit more forgiveness, and I think they look really nice. But I would have no hesitation in putting the VRFPC in the bag if I find the VFPs not performing in the course.

 

 

The star of the range session for me was the Vapor Speed TW. This driver felt absolutely fantastic. Looks great, has a nice square (to slightly open) look at setup, not too deep in the face, and a nice traditional head shape. The stock shaft felt pretty good, though I think it may spin just a tad bit more than I would like. Debating on whether I should put the Kiyoshi Purple in it and see how it goes. Middle hits reminded me of the first time I hit Mizuno MP33's and that soft forged feel. Sound was great and the ball felt like it was exploding off the face. Slight mishits were not too punishing. Obviously my big mishits especially on the heel went nowhere.

 

Great range session trying out the new Nike toys. I get to put the RM5 Platinums in play tomorrow :)

I think the XP95s are way too whippy and I noticed that my ball flight balloons and goes really high. Looks and feel are still top notch and forgiveness is great. I'm debating on whether to get the shafts pulled and put something a bit stiffer on there. I love the feel of the weight of the 95s, but I may need to get something either a bit heavier or a bit stiffer. Maybe I can ask my club builder if he can tip the stock iron shafts?

That's me as well, I don't putt as well with a sharpie line showing me the direction I'm a better putter when I use something on the ground in front of me to guide my line. Most often I have nothing showing on the ball while visible.

I did not play the VFPs but last year had a set of Apex Forged with that same shaft in it. I thought that shaft was "ok". Much better preferred my Nippon 950GHs for a lighter shaft, those felt a bit more smooth. If you are used to a heavy shaft the XP95s can feel whippy though.

I'm getting fit for my first driver tomorrow. I currently have the Covert 2.0 and was looking to get fit for either the Vapor Fly Pro or the Vapor Fly. I have hit both of the drivers before at various demo days and liked them a lot. When I go in for the fitting, should I tell the fitter up front that after hitting most of this year's current lineup that these were the few that I have narrowed them down to. Or should I just let the fitter hand me whatever he thinks is best?

Totally fine to tell him or her that those are the 2 drivers you have your eyes on! My only suggestion is to swing your swing when you get fitted. Don't swing out of your shoes. Otherwise you could end up with the wrong shaft or with the wrong loft or lie setting. Good luck!
