Basically, all those beers were swill, but what did we know. Fast forward 40 years, and somehow Pabst has become hip and trendy. Blech. I'm sitting in a bar enjoying a barrel-aged imperial stout, and a young person walks up to the bar next to me and orders a PBR. In a can. I want to gag.

When your goals change from lowering your handicap to only being to learn a swing that doesn't hurt your back.

When your goals go from being able to play as many times a week as possible to your goal being able to physically being able to play twice a week without extreme pain.

You used to walk to school (uphill, both ways, in 4 foot snow drifts) without an escort. If you lived within a half mile, you probably went home for lunch, where mom served a hot meal. No school buses. No soccer moms in mini-vans dropping off kids at school 2 blocks away from home. No crossing guards.

On the way home, it wasn't uncommon to get into a pickup game of street baseball. 'Just don't tear a hole in the knee of your "school" clothes, or mom will kill you.
... and if you did happen to 'not come home right away' after school, mom didn't call the national guard and send out search parties. If you missed dinner, that was your own fault, hopefully wherever you were fed you (and many times did).

If you weren't home within an hour of the lights going on and no phone call home, then the phone chain started, and you also got in trouble without a good explanation "I was at the park playing ball" was a valid explanation. "OK, fix something to eat yourself, your dad ate your share." *shrug* *Makes sandwich*

You remember when "a little music for the road trip" meant carrying a suitcase full of 8-track tapes.

Gotta love when a song is split between two tracks, no? Nothing click a big KA-CHUNK in the middle of a song.

- You remember the introduction of power windows in your car
speaking of cars, when power windows and cruise control were 'options' and not standard, and reserved for 'luxury' cars like cadillacs.

when cars had bucket seats.

when cars had chrome bumpers and door handles.

station wagons were the forerunners of suv's, and kids used to pile into the back of them without putting on seat belts.
Yes! In the days before safety let alone political correctness.

I'm so old I remember "blue laws", all stores shut down on Sunday, could ride a bike down US 1 with my dog following.......wish they could bring that back.

I remember walking a 1/2 mile to school, by myself, in kindergarten. My mom walked me once, after that I was on my own.......wish my kids' world was like that.

In golf, I remember and still miss balata balls. The modern ball is straighter, longer & more durable yet it is in noway as satisfying to 'crush'.

Nowadays it's rare to find a "smile" on the golf course, but that wasn't true when people were playing balatas. At least not in my group.

Sawgrass, I would gladly go back to a 3 piece wound if I could get a steady supply of the them. Btw, I just noticed we're neighbors. I blew my elbow on Sterling's range 2 months ago. I live in Norwalk.

Thanks, it's coming along okay, I've been doing the "dodgy elbows" therapy. It has definitely helped. I think I'm good to go in a month.

Blue laws = you forgot to buy beer on Saturday so you wake up Sunday and head north for the 120-mile packy run to NH before the game started.
