I feel like half of the stories I hear from Hobbits involve people being almost refused service - or just not being served altogether.

I need new irons! I have a set of OLD AP2 712s I bought used 3 years ago from Golf Etc in Frederick for $250 (3-pw). I bent the shaft on the 3i, threw the 8i in a lake in south Florida by accident, and generally wore out the rest. I'm in love with callawaygolfpreowned.com and they are offering some discounts on various iron sets. It seems the Apex are universally loved but there are a few different versions of them. Any advice on what to look for? For what it's worth I liked the AP2s.

39" Driver? That is the same length as a 3/4 iron. I am curious if he shortens all other clubs too or just the driver.

 

Bryson "Ro-sham-bo" Dechambeau is apparently tinkering around with same length woods to go with his same length irons. He wants to be able to make the same swing with every club in his bag. I'm skeptical on the same length woods.

 

I do like the analytical angle that he brings to the game. He treats each practice session as an opportunity for data collection. He was also talking about how his face-on putting method returned the face squarer to the ball and what this meant for his dispersion over time. He was convinced that the data was significant enough to make a change. I wonder if he will stay with it over time. It will be tough if he is averaging like 34 putts per round early in the season.

Depends on what you are looking for.

 

The older Apex our loved by most. The 2016 Apex/Apex pros are really good as well.

 

CF 16 have stronger lofts starting at the 6 and up.

 

Apex pro are completely forged and more traditional lofts. Longer irons are bladeish or close to them.

 

Cf16 you still get a little thicker look and more offset but noting crazy.

 

Pm if you want to go over more specs, etc.

Keep an eye on Global Golf and 3balls. They are effectively the same company but run different sales/promos. They run 15-20% off promos on a routine basis. If you are patient, you could upgrade to some 716 AP2s for a decent price. Also look at the Cobra Fly+. Very similar to the AP2 but can be had for much cheaper.

If you liked the AP2s, you'd probably like just about any "players" cb just fine.

Thanks for all the replies. I need to go hit these and find out works best. I'm a 15 HC and I think the AP2 might have been a little overstepping my bounds in terms of forgiveness. The CF16 sound legit. I also probably need to be fitted as I'm 6'3" - 6'4" with a long wingspan and have been playing standard equipment my whole golfing life. We'll see.

All my buddies are clamoring for me to be fit because of my frame. I'm more from the school of learn to hit them. Callawaygolfpreowned has the 2015 Apex forged 4-pw brand new condition true temper xp 95 shafts for $573. I'm tempted to just do it!

Recommended, but once you know the specs to one manufacturer write them down and adjust as needed to the other manufacturers. For instance, I played standard lie with my former 714 AP2's. I'm at 1 up on my Steelhead XRs because the Callaway standard lie is 1 degree flatter than Titleist.

You need a fitting or at least measure your wrist to floor and see what the specs say from their.

 

More times then not 1/2-1 inch long, 2 upright*

 

* However that doesn't mean those are correct.
