This will probably be just as great as the Epic, right?

vertical-groove-golf-e1479389026885-1021x580.jpg

Probably.

It's weird. My initial suspicion was that it was a major manufacturer that wanted to try something VERY out there and didn't want their name attached to it, like it was the Edsel.

Remember the Edsel, Kent?

Instead, the guy behind it seems like some random business man. Made money with some answering service app or something. May be a real estate agent, or that might be some other guy.

Google Neal Jagoda if you're interested.

Apparently, people really believe that PQ's 79 at Bethpage was pretty much the same as Bangas rounding the same 9 twice in a row and putting up a 79. Everybody gets a trophy!!!!

No one thinks they are "the same", we just dont give AF. I think some people are capable at looking at two great rounds and say hey you know what, two good friends shooting two great scores - and then moving on.

Its OK (I think) to enjoy an excellent round(s) of golf without the need to quantitatively compare the inner workings of each round to another. That's what your index is for. I can acknowledge how an index is calculated - and why - without the need to use its' invididual pieces in my personal enjoyment of someone's great round.

If DT shoots a great round at Oak Creek one day, I can just buy him a beer and enjoy it without saying "Well, I was going to enjoy this round, but you were 1.8 above Fabb's differential from yesterday, so its not as great".

Great post! Although, I makes too much sense. Needs to be deleted. There is no room for common sense here. However, I'll give you a Nekid Alex Morgan like for this!

I love a good thread debate to make the day go faster.

I guess I see myself as kind of in the middle. I'd be happy with a 79 from the reds, but if I felt I was striking the ball well I would start to think "I wonder what it could have been from the whites", also the other side of the coin, if I played the blues and shot 83 and felt I was striking well, I'd have thoughts about "what could have been" had I played from whites.

Satisfaction with your statistics (differential) when you put them on paper after the round is one thing. When you are actually in the round making great shots (whether it's an approach shot with a PW or an 8 iron depending on your tees) that's more satisfying to me than a sub-whatever differential. Until I get into a pissing contest about handicaps and then it's all about the numbers.

For guys that play and grind all the time though I can see how differential would play a bigger part in the quest for improvement. That's a totally other variable: frequency of play and season long goals of improvement.

So FedEx seems to have lost a faucet part that was supposed to be delivered on Monday. It's not a big deal - I bought the part at Home Depot for $20 last Friday so I wouldn't have to wait until Monday. But they are determined to continue demonstrating their incompetence.

I got a voicemail from their tracking agent asking me to call them back. I call them from my office phone and get someone who is just a regular agent. She says she needs to put me on hold and call the tracking agent. I say ok, and here we go...

On hold on my office phone. Cell phone rings and caller ID is the FedEx number I just called. I pick up, have office phone to my left ear on hold and answer cell with right ear.

Me: Hello

Agent: Yes, we have a customer who needs to talk about a lost package.

Me: What?

Agent: I have a customer on the line you left a message for. He's calling you back.

Me: Aren't you the person I just spoke to who put me on hold? You're calling my cell phone.

Agent: Oh my god, I'm so sorry.

Cell call drops.

She takes me off hold, apologizes again, and says she has the tracking agent and will transfer me.

Tracking agent comes on.

TA: Hi, we understand you're missing the package that was delivered on Monday. We called the driver and he said he left it inside the carport next to the side door.

Me: I don't have a carport. Or a side door.

TA: Oh. Let me call the driver.

4 minutes on hold.

TA: I spoke to the driver. It seems we have a misdelivery.

Me: Yes, it seems.

TA: He's going to go back and try and find the package. We'll call you back.

I blame 827 for this. Payback is a b1tch.

Yes, mtn. They are a b1tch.

Disclaimer: The faucet probably came into the Gaithersburg Station and the driver was an idiot. Mistakes happen, hope he does the pkg retrieval and gets it to you.

Me: Can you believe the voice on that guy?

Agent: Whuh whuh whuh where's my faucet? Where's my faucet? Waaaahhhhh

Me: LOL amirite like STFU about your faucet?

Agent: Wait, who is this. Wrong number. Prank caller. Prank caller.

Were you guys aware, or am I mistaken, that a "hole" doesn't really have to be cut into the putting green?

Some guy wrote that in my thread in "instruction" and I was like, "that can't be right", but I couldn't find anything in the rule book that would dispute it.

Or, if we really want to be nitpicky, wherever you cut the hole becomes de facto the putting green, but it doesn't actually have to be that nicely mown firm area we're all familiar with.

I'm only 90% sure I'm using de facto correctly.

Also, it seems like all that stuff about where to cut hole on the putting green aren't even really rules, but instead "recommendations". The hole diameter is a rule (or at least a definition). I did know that actually. Like some people go, "that's illegal. A hole has to be 3 paces onto the green." Well, it doesn't appear to be illegal per se.

I'm only 90 sure I'm using per se correctly there.

I don't understand. If the rules don't explicitly tell people where to cut holes, how do they do it? This seems like a slippery slope. First people will cut the hole too close to the edge of the green, and next thing you know the hole is going to be in a bunker. We need more definition here. I'll draft something up to send to the USGA.

Sully - be sure to account for the mounds of sand in the bunkers where holes will be cut.

Hole location is only a guideline. No firm and fast requirements, per se. If you thought it was a rule, you have another think coming.*

*This is the original phrase.

My only concern is that the guy placing and digging the holes got laid the night before.

apparently endlesswinterco was in a significantly long dry spell when he was setting the pins at the woodlands back in the day.

worst pin locations i ever saw: northwest, the morning after a rain storm. they had almost closed the course it was so wet. i was out there with PQ and boogs i think. pins were literally a step away from the edge, on a huge slope. impossible to get up and down -even for pq!- if you were short-sided.

i shot 77 from the blue tees, which was a 4.4 differential for those who worry about such things.

Don't worry, Sully. It's tough to come up with a good post after the inaugural thread war 2017. I'm not even sure if eagle and City are still friends.

Side note, anyone playing this Sunday? 40* is pretty chilly to actually get out there, but I haven't played in a month or so, so I'm desperate.

If they were to place the holes in the bunkers, actually, that may make the game a lot easier for me. I asked the USGA to make sand bunkers ground under repair. The sheep herders that invented the game, didn't do it in a desert.

I know there are guidelines..

The golf channel Touram tourney at Oak Creek had a issue with a hole cut on #17.

It was into the slope on the back tier. One the low group playing had 4 of their players 4 putt. Identical to #17 GP two years ago.

The tournament official deemed not fair and pulled it out the hole completely out of the competition.

What's funny is their pro wasn't at the course (imagine that) and whoever was in charge didnt have the ability to fix it ( put a new hole).

They did the handicap thing if you skip a hole.
