MD/VA/DC Golfers - Ten Seconds or Less

I looked into TV last fall. It is a pretty nice deal for us millennials.

$250 initiation

$250 per month

No minimums

With the ClubCorp acquisition of Norbeck, my dues will go up ~$300/month on 4/1/18. So, it will probably be a short tenure at the Beck for old sneek. I like the place a lot but am pretty sure it is not worth an extra $3600 per year.

TV will most likely be on my radar come next spring.

if you join under that deal you also aren't locked into the 3 year thing that i am. so not only do you pay less initiation even if you do it just before you're 30 it removes that variable.

FABB are you listening?

Knowing what I know about Clubcorp - They won't look at a buying a club until it has $X/month of revenue from membership fees. Membership fees below $X/month is a non-starter. Norbeck ran that promo last year to sign up 75 more members, which got them over that hurdle. Unsurprisingly, as soon as they signed up enough new mf'ers, the acquisition was proposed. New member rates were grandfathered in until 4/1/18, at which time they convert to the regular membership rates (regular membership rates dropped for every age category from where they were before the acquisition, so those members are happy). It just makes sense that this was the play all along. They tried something similar about 12 months ago with Concert Golf but it fell through. I haven't spoken to any member who is unhappy with the change.

There is a covenant in the purchase agreement that if for any consecutive six month period the membership revenues drop below.....I think it's $175,000/month....Clubcorp can sell the land to whoever they want. That's for 7 years. Years 8-10 the covenant goes to $225,000/month I think. After year 10 they can sell that b**** if they feel like it.

President of the club said there was a standing offer to sell the club to NVR/Ryan homes for $22MM. That would have netted all certificate holders $25,000 or so, and they never even voted on it. People there really wanted the club.

Was it the worthington league or waverly league that you hated, City?

Both.

Worthington was tolerable because I played with work guys.

They're not golf leagues. They're opportunities for a bunch of rough-fluffers to complain about immigrants.

I played steelfiber i95s for a bit last season, and have a couple of driving irons I periodically use with Recoil 95s in them. I think both sshafts are really nice but I never fell in love. Consistency didn't change that much (I'm an 18 hc so how consistent can I be?) but I did lose some feel. Basically all things were equal except the feel wasn't there (or wasn't what I wanted) so I went back to steel. Even though the feel wasn't quite there, I think some of my issue may have been more about the weight than the shaft material. I want to try some steelfiber/recoil 110s and see if they work better for me.

Now let me push some DG products on you...

For you guys that like DG but don't like the weight, try the AMT. I wasn't sure I'd like the ascending weight but the more I use them the more I think them. Also the DG 120 comes out soon...117g s300 and 120g X100. Haven't gotten to test the 120 yet but should soon.

$22mil seems like a BST-esque-lowball for the amount of land Norbeck has. Just ballparking it at 150 acres...complete guess based on golf course averages. Maybe 200 since it has tennis and stuff? And it's not like it's previously developed land where you would need to demo a bunch of buildings to construct new ones. I bet it's worth a few multiples more than that.

I have been playing with a 64 for a month now.

62 gives me a full club for everything under 80 and my 56 100 +

Also, with a 62 I just do normal chips no need to open the face. If I need to I'll open the 56 yo make it a 58.

I thought about it a lot and it has been working for me.

4-A Steelhead Pros w/Ctaper Lite S

*** 54/10 (bent to 56/12) 60/08 (bent to 62/10) Callaway Slate MD Forged w/Ctaper Lite S

Some big changes in the Tex bag. I like what you did with the wedges. More bounce will help you out. Although, I'd probably hit myself in the face with the 62.

How are the Steelhead Pros? I really wanted to test and get fit for those on the Cally trip, but they were not available. They had not yet been blessed by the USGA. I'll have to hit them the next time we head out.

Just got them in. However, I have been playing with them w/XP95s. I love them.. a lot better than the apexs on misses, etc.

So of course I went with the Ctaper lites. Those were recommend for me and the first range session went well.

Of course you can hit them. I'll bring the xp95 ones too.

I'm well aware, and it's on my radar. Even though I'm not sure I'll be able to stomach full dues for the amount of time I'll get out there, this year is my last chance to join and avoid the big up front commitment.

i just bought a 'nardi wedge. 52 with 8° of bounce. i already regret the purchase. it took me half a year to get comfortable with the vokey. granted, the 52 is my 'gap wedge all the things' club, so there are many a nuance to get accustomed to for each type of shot.

anyone want first dibs once i decide to sell?

it's the H2 wedge that came out a couple years ago.

and the color?*

I just found some yellow M&Ms on the floor in the bathroom. The weird part is that I'm working from home today.

Are you sure they aren't small urinal cakes?

I was thinking that too. I'd love to have a urinal at home. One of those old school trough style ones. That was maximizing real estate when multiple people had to go. You just elbowed your way in to make room, and made sure the streams didn't cross.

And I feel like I've posted about that before. Deja vu thread moment.

Hey guys, it's been a long time. Would you recommend a good public nearby the DC area with good fast greens? I've played old hickory and westfields in the last month but wanted to check some MD courses as I've heard they have better greens in general.

My experience is that Worthington generally has the fastest greens of the publics, but others might have more recent info.

compass pointe's greens on sunday on the north-east 9s were running at a decent clip. they were also very firm. i think you'd enjoy the course from further back - some of our longer hitters didn't really like it from closer in.

in the next couple weeks, virtually all the greens in the area are gonna be good if the course's super is worth anything. everyone (except for hobbits) did their aeration at the tail end of march, and we've had a sunny april with excellent growing conditions. great time to be playing golf.

btw, for those that don't remember, this is outlier (from the UMD outing last year).

Thanks for all the replies today, Guyz.

Pee troughs are awesome in theory. However... And I might be the last guy you expect to hear this from... I totally get shy kidney. Even at separate urinals without a divider. Troughs are nightmares for shy kidney.

If I know I'm going to a trough, I'm planning my liquid intake like it's a road trip.

I think the last time I used a trough was either at Wrigley field or at a Nascar race in Dover.

I've never experienced stage fright like I have at Techs stadium. Something about looking into another mans eyes while trying to take a leak just causes me to clamp up like a vise!

Ditto what CCMVP said. Worthington is about as consistently firm and fast as any of the public courses in the area.

Awesome first night of men's league, weather was just bang on perfect for golf. Made two birdies and three bogies but partner and I still had to win the last two holes to push the match. Yeah its really nice to win a match outright. But man I think it almost feels better to be two down with two to play and come back and win the last two holes with birdies to push the match. Awesome way to kick off the season.

Can we all agree that the practice green at Worthingtom is a bit cramped?
