The course routing has been changed from how it typically is to allow for more matches to take advantage of the "best holes" on the course 14 - 18.

 

Front 9: 10, 11, 12, 13, 4, 5, 6, 2, 3. Back 9: 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 1, 7, 8, 9

As haphazard as the rerouting seems, there's a smart method behind the madness. Hole Nos. 14-18 represent the course's toughest (and greatest) stretch. And since the majority of match-play matches end on No. 16, playing TPC Harding Park as is would mean most golfers would never even reach the course's finest gems. The re-routing is meant to maximize thrills and entertainment.

Jordan Spieth's press conference today at the WGC. This guy is a shark. Really impressed with his mind.

Says he views the round robin as win or go home.

Says it's not a bomber course. Have to work the ball both ways off the tee.

Says Rory is a "role model" for him....

You could be right but people said the same thing about Reed going into the Ryder Cup and he promptly "shushed" the lot of them. Should be a great match if they can both get there.

Spieth and Reed were paired for all of their Ryder Cup matches except the singles. Reed won his singles match (to H. Stensen), Spieth lost his (to G. McDowell). That's the only difference in Ryder Cup records as both were first timers.

Reed was a dragon slayer in his college match play career, but he's not been playing that great recently. That would be a heck of a match Saturday morning, though....

If that's your final 8, then the Spieth/Day match will probably be the one to watch on Saturday afternoon. Playing Reid in the morning and Day in the afternoon would be a pretty darn tough day for Spieth.

I think the more strategic-minded players will do well here. The patient guys who position themselves nicely.

Harding Park is not a bomber's paradise, so guys like Jim Furyk, Graeme McDowell and Zachary Johnson should have a chance to showcase their strengths. Jordan Spieth, too.
