A week before the news came out I posted about how deflated and lost he looked out on the course. You gotta feel for the guy as he is a really nice person.

The coverage sucked, they showed no shots from a couple matches I wanted to see. I like the 5 hours of coverage because I love golf but showing every shot of dufners when he is making bogey after bogey seems pointless.

Now that my venting is done, I agree the new format is sweet I'm really looking forward to the next 4 days of golf just hope the coverage is better tomorrow and I can see a bit of every match.

The top seed winners were:

Spieth (7 birdies, 6 under par thru 16)
Reed (who won ugly at 1 over par)
Garcia (3 under thru 18)

That's a lot of fire power unlikely to make it Saturday's matches.

Coverage was pretty lame today, really didn't get to see a lot of action outside of the 3-4 main matches. Really hope Adam can pick it up and win tomorrow or it'll be another disappointing week.

Adam Scott only made one birdie today and was 3 over par thru 14 holes, when the match ended. Not much indication he can win out the next two days to have a shot at the weekend. Of course, Casey only made one birdie in regulation and was 1 over thru 18, so he didn't exactly light it up. All today's losers can do is take it one day at a time.

I kinda thought the big winner today was the course. Beautiful to look at and sneaky difficult. Only a couple guys really lit it up.

Great win by Molinari. Scott has been playing pretty average for a year now. Maybe since getting married and having a kid golf just doesn't seem that important anymore.

Awesome come back from Garcia. You wouldn't expect something like that from him.

I watched a lot yesterday because I was home sick all day. I found the course to be enjoyable given how unfamiliar I was with it. The way they have the cypresses trimmed to frame the holes is beautiful. I love that you can see chain link fences and hear the sound of traffic in the background. I know its not a muni but it sure feels like one.

I'm not sure how I feel about the new format.

If you lose your first match you don't move on even if you win your remaining two and your opponent wins only one of two. As in: if Rose, Stenson & Poulter all win today but theire round 1 opponents also win today, they are all out. I guess there will be a lot of pointless games friday and perhaps even today if your round 1 oppent win his game before you finish yours.. I also think there is a chance no one of the first round losers will move on to 1/16.

Don't know how evil they can get Murcar for the Paul Lawrie one later in the year, only time I played it was in 3 degrees and sideways rain so the struggle against golf course was secondary to struggle for warmth.

Thought it was basically a muni with a decorative TPC title slapped on it, at least you get deep discounts with an SF city card or a bay area address

My only complaint is that they matched all the 1 seeds to the 4's in the flights yesterday. Each player is going to play all three other players in the flight, might as well of randomized the pairings. Regardless, there were quite a few upsets and this is some of the most exciting golf I've seen in awhile. Match play at this level really rewards the aggressive course manager and these guys are excellent at aggressive.

This is why I thought it would be set up more like World Cup group play. You have wins, losses, and ties. And there is a tiebreaker like overall birdies or holes won or something. Then, people wouldn't necessarily be eliminated in the middle of day two because you can play really really well after a loss and still win the tiebreaker.
