Multiple putters

How often do you switch out?
I have one putter. I have had one putter most of my golfing career. (though not the SAME putter)
How many of you have numerous putters?
How often do you put a different one in play?
What determines when you do that?
Are they the same basic style or do you go from blade to mallet to gimmicky, etc.?

I have too many putters myself...I generally switch every other round, but I have 1 or 2 putters that I trust above all.

Generally speaking, I will putt with each of them the night before (or morning before) a round and see which is feeling best in my hands. I translate that mentally into confidence with the flatstick and trust my stroke to that putter knowing how nice it felt just before the round.

I have 13 putters, good thing I am not superstitious!! I used to change whenever I felt like using a different one, this year I am doing something different and planning on using the same putter for the whole golf season, it is the Redwood Piper S.

I have practiced with it indoors for a couple of months and it is very solid, has good weight to it, which I like. Finally got out on the course here for my first round Saturday, the Piper S worked great, nice roll with good feel and distance control, 29 putts on greens which were pretty good but not quite in prime condition for this early in the year.

I have 4 putters that I game. 3 short (34 inches) and one long at 48 inches. I'll go to the long putter if I really start putting like crap. Actually, I should probably just stick with the long putter....I putt with it the best and I'm pretty consistant with it.

I switch on a regular basis, (own 8-10 putters).

I'm in the process of paring down to 4-6 (look for me

next week on the FS forum)All my putters are plumber neck

(aka anser style) or heel shafted blades (aka Coronado style)

I switch because I believe that I see things differently and feel things

differently from time to time. When I feel that change coming on I

switch. I don't think that any of us feel and respond the same every single

day. This occurs more often as I groe older (now 68, celebrating 50 yrs.

at this magnificent game.

I do applaud those that are able to stay with one putter.

Thanks

i've got 7 putters: yes callie, yes callie-f, yes olivia, scotty newport beach, scotty red x, scotty futura, and nike oz mallet (original). the nike oz rarely sees the course anymore and the futura has always performed well on the practice green but failed on the course. i've been using the yes callie all year and only recently replaced it with a callie-f because of a great deal i found. before the callie hit the bag, the red x had been in there for 9 monthes and was only replaced after 6 bad putting rounds. the red x might be my favorite putter but it misbehaved, and until the callie does it is going to sit in time out. the olivia has made 2 appearnces this year and both were mix reviews. the newport beach i love the feel of but my distance control can be hit or miss with it some days.

i also do the same with wedges. if a set isn't working, it gets put in the corner.

I have two putters that I rotate….

Titleist/Scotty Cameron Studio Stainless Newport 2, 34"/340g

Titleist/Scotty Cameron Studio Stainless Newport Beach, 34"/340g

The "Beaches" have a sound slot in the putter that's supposed to help the feel, and also alter the sound characteristics of striking the ball. The sound and feel of a Beach model is very unique - For that reason - I tend to practice with my Studio Stainless Newport Beach, but my gamer is the Studio Stainless Newport 2, which I feel has a more consistent roll and impact. As far as the Beach Slot - I agree with this post below.

Posted by "Kuch" on Cameroncollector.com: "My experience has been that I sometimes have speed control issues with the beaches. Not because there is any real spring effect but the sound makes a difference and can trick you into feeling like the ball comes off the face "hot" or "dead" sometimes. The sound is a higher pitched, crisp sound on dead center hits and gets softer or more dead sounding on mishits. I find that the reason why I switch to the beach sometimes is to help me make sure I am hitting the sweet spot....the sound feedback let's me know this. I consider it sort of a training aid."

Here's an explanation of the "Beach" sound slot from the Scotty Cameron website:

was using a mil spec 34" newort for years then got a circa 62 #3 last year, and was rotating them...now i just bought a yes tracy from someone on this site and has entered the rotation...i also have a ping anser 2 that i used ages ago but i still love and bring out time to time. Its really whatever rolling the ball best on the rug at home or putting green before the round...theyre all the same basic blade -newport style putter so it pretty easy to interchange...its really all confidence i guess :russian_roulette:

After finding my mojo with the Rife Martinique I sold three of the four putters I had. Sill have a DFX 2-ball blade but that will probably be on eBay soon as well.

I think it depends a lot on what you like. I have had as many as 5 in a rotation where I switched every round. I ahve also played with one putter for a whole season. I used to track my stats with each of the 5 and there were some differences on which I made more longer putts and total putts.

Right now I have a Mills CS Tradition and a PING WRX Darby, and a Mills Gooseneck Fleetwood at some point. I will rotate them. Right now the Tradition is in the bag until I get used to it. Once I know the putters, I do not think it matters which one I use.

Whenever my Newport betrays me, I look to the Bullseye to purify my stroke. Something about the Bullseye that makes me concentrate more.

I have 18 putters. I only have a 2 putter rotation. My gamer and one that used to be my gamer. I don't switch a putter out unless I am really struggling and need something new to look at and teach the other a lesson for behaving badly.
