One of the members at my course used his M1 and after one driving range session and one round on the course this is happening to the paint on the bottom. It isn't scratching at all it looks like the paint or however they color the black area is coming off

Anyone else see this on the M1 heads?
That doesn't look like the effects of contact with the ground as the wear would be in a front to back pattern... the look of that seems to indicate that a chemical got in contact with the head and stayed on there for some time. Thats my guess.
I don't believe that is a possibility. He took the wrapper off when he bought it and then played the next day. I don't think it is a coincidence that it is fading on the only part of the head that contact the grass and ground
its quite possible for a golf course to spray chemicals that could do this... however in all my years golfing i don't think i have ever seen that happen to a brand new driver... and doesn't look like fading... looks like peeling. It is definitely a unique occurrence. It also looks like tiny peel marks inside the weight track as well... would be nice to see more pics of the driver... Hate to ask as well but was it confirmed as a real TM driver?
This is a fertilizer burn/stain/damage. Same thing happened to my gianini putter.
Instant damage like that? Wow that is wild. I've never seen that before. I have a PING G25 driver and the finish in that has never been effected and I know for a fact I've played on freshly fertilized grass. Also my other members who played in their same group today have the Titleist 915 driver and the PING G30 and no damage on that. Seems odd...

Yes definitely a legit driver, we got them straight from Taylormade. We are a Pro Shop. You can't feel anything on the fading it is just purely visible
And the two white areas in the pic left of the "fade" in the slider... those would be hard to explain as possible contact with ground areas? Looks odd to me that there would be faded or peeling areas there.
Those spots are glare, no damage other than on the obvious front bottom and spotty inside the rail system

Heard back from TM and they have not seen this on any other heads yet. Replacement being sent and they are looking into it.

That shouldn't happen regardless of fertilizers. Chemicals on golf courses are a simple fact of life.
This is true, but it could be something like at my home course where the course actually got bad chemicals from the supplier and it burned up and killed like 3 of our greens before they noticed the burns hours later and stopped the spraying process. So maybe this particular course had some stronger chemicals then normal or a bad mix as was the caveat my home course. Just a thought? Have others been having same issue at this course with other drivers paint peeling or fading? If not I'd say TM may have some manufacturing Finnish paint issues.

Hard to fully illustrate the the bulge without natural light on a cell phone but here is my best try. To answer someone else's question earlier you can feel it for sure.
As I said yesterday, I noticed a slight dip on the head of my M1 yesterday. It looks like it's in the exact same spot. But mine actually doesn't bulge, it looks like the head is caving in.

I just got back from playing a fall scramble up in foxford hills in IL, cool breezy 20 mph windy wet day, and I won the long drive hole against 116 players. And the M1 just continues to step up to the plate and bomb it. The hole was into the wind so keeping the trajectory a little lower helped me out. I only have 110 swing speed so I was surprised that hit held up.
I preordered my M1 and have had it in my hands before the release date. So I have hit probably over 700 balls with it and I see no apparent cosmetic issues. I see the pics from some of you and I definetly feel fortunate I am not witnessing any issues.
That's cool, how long was the drive?

Also, which shaft did you go with?
I went with the Pro 60. It was the best fit for me since I was looking for more height. But it is just my swing that produced a lower boring drive, but I do feel the shaft has help me elevate the trajectory. Not sure how far the drive was.

Picked mine up last night. I probably won't be able to get out until the weekend but am anxious to see results on the course against SLDR 9* with Rogue Black and Fly-Z+ with stock VLCT. On the monitor (GC2), the M1 was producing slightly faster CHS and 5-6mph of ball speed.
Club head speed is estimated on GC2 unless it had the head tracking unit. The ball speed though is awesome! Well done!
Without the HMT unit the GC2 uses a smash factor of 1.45 to calculate driver clubhead speed. So, a perceived increase in clubhead speed may just be because of a more forgiving head or better contact. Ballspeed is more important, regardless.

Could be chemicals I guess but course is in fantastic shape and there weren't any other problems with other clubs. Still waiting on a response from Taylormade Rep and Taylormade

Is there an adjustment on flight scope for range balls? I highly doubt I was hitting 345 with less than 170 ball speed (club head speed was at 122)
Fitting was done with range balls

Whatever the final number is, there was decent amount of difference between M1 and ft-9 tour for me to pick the M1 (probably the loft more so than the club)

I remember earlier in this thread someone mentioned beware of cold weather with these heads. I still go out in 40 deg. If no wind. Just wondering if it's worth the risk? And is there any truth to it since the face and the first section on top is still titanium. ( I have cracked several faces before so I know there is always a risk of that).
if i remember correctly, i believe callaway had issues with the rear weight/badging in the FT-iZ coming loose in cold weather. also, i think they had issues with epoxy or media inside the head coming loose causing issues with rattles, etc.

don't remember which heads they were exactly, just saying what i remember.

From personal experience it was the FT-9. I hit in the winter a bunch, never hit more than 10 a day in 30 degree weather but I still busted the weight off, but the seal between titanium and carbon was perfectly intact. So I don't believe that it should be an issue on the M1. EDIT: sorry the picture is sideways idk how to fix it but the picture can still be seen

WdW, i believe the issue was with the epoxy they used on all their weights/badges. i agree with you, i don't know believe it had to do SPECIFICALLY with the joint between the titanium/metal and the carbon. i could be wrong though.

btw, nice pic for illustration purposes...but i'm sorry for your loss? lol

My local GolfSmith has the M1's out for anyone to hit. I have been to a range or two that has the away from the rest of the demo carts and in different office. Not sure why? Perhaps Afraid they will disappear?

I think it varies from store to store. Kind of like the SC are locked up in most putter sections. To keep them from being stolen or used inappropriately.

Yes, I thought the same after seeing the picture that I took. I looked at it again all over the head and couldn't find the crinkle by the TM. I finally realized that the crinkle look was just the reflection of the doorway in the room. The bulge line is there though. This picture was taken brand new never hit, right out of the shrink wrap. Others I have seen look just like it. You can't see it at address, and have to have the driver turned just right to see it. It is my belief that they all look like this, the guys that claim they don't have one, just are not looking at it at the right angle, and the people that are saying it didn't show up till after a few rounds, I think they just didn't notice it before, but it was always there. This is just how the head comes together. I'd bet money I could find one on everyone here's M1 driver within 10 seconds. Not trying to defend TM, but every M1 driver I've seen has it, even the brand new never hit ones.

Disagree. Looked at plenty in the shop today that had no such problem. We can revisit this post in a month - by then we will know how widespread the problem is.

You're assuming it is a problem, it may be made that way on purpose.

Why would you intentionally engineer a face to composite crown seam that was not flush? So far we have yours that presents as a buckle on the toe side, and mine as a buckle on the heel. Does this indicate a QC issue in the making?

Received my warranty replacement head back from Taylormade today. Thanks Taylormade. That said, I would call that acknowledgment that they have a problem with the Carbon crown buckle separating from the Titanium.

Glad to see it Rex. Maybe you're right, but then again, maybe it's top-notch customer service replacing a blemish with no questions asked. Either way, here's hoping this one works for you! :drinks:

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

I just hit this for the first time paired with a KK 70XT and man is it sweet. Talk about super low spin, more along the lines of no spin! That setup is one months rent + utilities, which I am still having trouble wrapping my head around that thought. It was the best option to use as a stand in for my Krank F6 (fixed component head) trying to get a sense of how the XT would perform in my current setup. Theres several things to like about the M1. First the sound is damn near bliss. It's the only driver that you can liken the sound to the beauty of a cool meadow breeze on an autumn afternoon. I completely dig the two toned storm trooper look, which I had disliked at first. The feel in the hands is ever so soft, gentle and slightly supple, like a mothers touch - not even close to how harsh the aeroburner was. If I didn't already have a driver I was happy with, this would definitely be in my bag and also delinquent with paying my next months rent lol.

That shaft isn't for everyone but it was the best fit for me. For those of you that have lower launch and flight, give it a try.

According to Fujikura, it's a mid launch low spin shaft

I also have it and it works well for me. I normally launch the ball quite high but actually with this shaft and the 9.5 M1 it launches mid and with low spin. Strangely enough higher launch shafts in drivers (in same flex as I usually play) seem to go lower for me.

    • Titleist GT drivers - 2024 the Memorial Tournament
Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
