Oceans Eleven Confessions to break a man's heart....

I am intrigued by their new "crossover" 3-5 irons. I have hybrids that I don't

use much. The crossover irons might be worth a demo but at $229 each

they're a little too pricey IMO. I do like the idea of hybrids that look more like

an iron and you can hit like an iron.

Hit one of the Crossovers (3 C, 18*) at a LGS "Demo Day" recently. I suppose they're O.K. Certainly easier to hit than a 3i/4i. But haven't used those numbers in years. Sort of reminded me of the earlier G series hybrids without the big toe. Ping seemingly doesn't want to call them hybrids or driving irons. Preferring instead to say they've created a "whole new category". O.K., right. At $229 per, its a non-starter for me. Guess they're for fan bois only. YMMV.

One could put together a Maltby KE4 Tour HDI Hybrid (iron, whatever you want to call it) for $80.00 or so. Maybe less depending on the shaft (.370) selected. Put one together one for a golf bud a couple of years back. He used a DG S300 in it. His plan was use it as a driving iron on windy days. Didn't see it in his bag once last year.

Ya, the price is steep. I have other clubs I can use if I don't like the 3 and 4

iron CBs in the Mac set. I have G10 and Rapture V2 hybrid sets, a G15 7

wood and my S58 3 and 4 irons. I'll make it work.

Hey gang, just came back from one of my many Home Care Giver follow up. I was going through the MSN daily feature reports, and found this by accident, (Their version of a sub topic) and thought I'd share.

It got me thinking: "Maybe there's hope yet"

Interesting - thought provoking. A guy is a teaching sub when he could easily be dead or a gangster instead (or a dead gangster). Hope the path he chose is in turn chosen by others.

Leisure suit and silk flowered shirt. 3rd grade school picture.

Big wheel. Screw the green machines, I was awesome on the big wheel. BMX bikes - Had a Webco, Patterson and P.K. Ripper. Had 10 speed from Woolworths. Mountain bike from kmart. Graduated to a Trek a few years ago.

That Schwinn Continental was the cream of the crop.

High school? Straight leg Levis. High tops..untied of course. Bandana folded up neatly and slightly displayed in the hip pocket. Splash of Drakkar. As I said in another thread, my bitchin' camaro tied it all together.

Ah ha - funny what details we remember so vividly, right? Now this one will raise eyebrows but it honestly DID happen and it WAS a popular thing.

Ready? You sure?

I remember at one time owning and wearing an item called a "dickey" - LMAO!

I looked online and they're still around. The question that gets begged here is... what marketing genius gave a garment that name?

I remember those. Wore them mostly with V Neck sweaters.

I still have a silk neck-kerchief from Liberty of London. It was the complementing addition to shirt, slacks, sport's jacket and Hush Puppies. Along with Canoe, Brut, Quorum and Paco Rabanne. I have since moved on to Burberry, Touch and Brit, eau de toilette.

Old Schwinn bikes part deux. Went to a estate sale late last summer, looking for what else, golf clubs. Instead found this. A '62 Corvette 5 - Speed. Chicago built, 100% American steel. Very cool Brooks, sprung leather saddle (very hard on the arse). Walked around it for 10 minutes, thinking, trying to decide, told myself these don't come around very often, bought it. The Mrs. went ballistic when I brought it home. Told her that I was going to restore it. "Yeah right, just like all that golf stuff you have in the basement".

The picture makes it look better than it is in the flesh. Drivetrain needs a complete overhaul. New chain and cabling. Possible new rear derailleur. Old schwinn bike parts are crazy expensive on the bay. Was looking for reflectors to install on the rear rack (3 of 4 are missing), $50 for four of them! Rode it around town a couple of times last fall. Comfortable but heavy, the crank needs disassembly, cleaning and lube. Was going to work on it this winter, it still sets in the storage shed. May try to sell it, recapture my investment. Dunno. Upon reflection, probably not my most prudent acquisition. Guess I fell prey to the nostalgic; attempting to recapture the glory days of my misspent youth. Or a fool and his money are soon parted.

Its not like I don't have a bike to ride. Trek 7300 hybrid. My mileage bike, but don't seem to put as many miles on it as I once did. Ride mostly dirt roads and trails around home. Been kicking the tires a bit looking at a Specialized Crosstrail Elite Disc. Contemplating an upgrade. Nope, not gonna do it. What merch do I have that can be peddled for funding?

Darn it has a Rat Fink decal on the front fender. Actually those chrome fenders may clean up well with a little Coca- Cola and a Brillo pad. I have a 3 wheeled adult tricycle of course it came from the scrap pile at work It was rusty so in true Rat Rod fashion I sanded it down and hit it with the black primer. I even have a genuine Harley tool bag on the front handle bars left over from my last Harley which was a 76 Shovel Head Electra Glide

Went out for a quick solo nine last year. One of the two individuals in front of me had been uttering rather loud curse words for several holes. I generally was paying no mind. After putting out, looked up to see him smash his driver into the ground breaking the club in two. Leaving head and shaft on the tee box.

Upon arrival, saw what was left of a gleaming white TM R1 driver. Threw the shaft in the trash, stuffed the head in my bag. Sold it for $45 on the bay. Easy money.

I found a TM, TiBubble2, 2W head, that had been knocked aside by the mower, at the driving range. Slightly banged up, but with the face is left intact. I had a DG S300 and an Avon Chamois, med, put on it then stuck it in a corner, never to be used......It's still here.

I checked eBay just now, to my surprise, there is one for sale at $18. :cheesy:

I think you'll like them, bro. You gotta give them chance. If you have a certain shaft you're fond of don't be afraid to change if the rifles don't work out.

Hope you get to use them before you're back OTR. We can compare notes on our blades experience.

Absolutely, if I win the auction I'll have them in time to play while we're home.

I'll have to get the lofts checked and lies adjusted and maybe a re-grip but those

shouldn't take much time.

I will definitely share my experience, though only up to the 6 iron and probably

old school lofts. If I like 'em the search will be on for some mid/long irons.

You may find you like the CBs in the long irons unless, you just want a full set of blades. Either way, the VIPS look nice. Hope you get them. They're an iconic set.

I don't mind the CBs in the long irons. PD said there is a jump in offset

from the blades to the CBs. I'll have to see how that looks and if it messes

with my mind. If the head sizes of the CBs are OK I don't think there will

be a problem. I've never owned a combo set. This is my first venture

into that.

Sorry. Intent wasn't to offend anyone. Seemed as though there was a brief "stream of consciousness" discussion about old bicycles. Thought I'd throw up a post (or two) about them. Still attempting to learn the rules of engagement ITT.

No offence taken - I was just joking around. I'm a big cyclist myself. Others here aren't so passionate about it as has previously been discussed. That's cool though as diversity is partly what makes life interesting!

Nice bikes by the way. They sound like bargains.

No biggie. We discuss all kinds of things. We've even touched on the dreaded blades vs GI irons. I was on the the side of the GI as were a few others. LMAO! I've currently put a set of MP68s in the bag and someone else I know is currently bidding on some MAC VIPs. Yet, another is weighing options of players irons. We call them MAWBBS. That was a creation of Deninja. It stands for

All is well. We stay away from the 2 big subjects by rules of the forum. Plus, it could attract some unwanted attention. (Mods, trolls, etc.) Other than that everyone is welcome.

LMAO - My words come back to haunt me. This one is entirely on me and not you Fella. I went on a rant once about how two-lane country roads are places where bikers are often seen as vehicles sometimes face a potential head-on collision. I laid down this complete diatribe on how such byways barely accommodate two passing vehicles as is, and that bike trails and other options at least reduce some of that risk.

My friend Wolf is probably gently reminding ME more than you of the fact there's no need for me to spin up the torpedoes - lol.

That's great. I'm sure he'd love some new wheels. I started Mini Wolf (age 4) off on a balance bike and he's great on it. It's amazing how quickly he picked it up. I have other friends who got their kids learning on bikes with stabalisers (training wheels) and they said it was a nightmare trying to transition them to the real thing. The advantage of the balance bike is that they, well, learn to balance, which is kind of important when you're trying to ride.

As for getting him a cruiser you reminded me of a classic British Bike from the 70's and 80's - the Raleigh Chopper. Not sure about N. America, but loads of kids in the UK had them, though sadly not me. It was the kids equivalent of Peter Fonda's Chopper motorbike in Easy Rider. So cool. (cool)

So fun to watch the little ones learn! Seems like they are getting younger all the time. I was 7 when I learned to ride a bike. My grandson was 3 and riding the two wheeler. I'd like to think he is especially talented but it was really the "balance bike." He went from the balance bike straight to a real pedal bike. It makes the training wheels unnecessary.

All's Kool. Something of a self defense reaction on my part. The WRX world can be a dangerous place in some threads. Lots of big shots, internet warriors and trolls. I've been around long enough, sufficiently lurked, to know the who's and where's. Over reaction on my part. Moving on.

How 'bout I post a blades pic. I like blades. Or MB as was pointed out in another thread. (Parsing). Play them no better or worse than GI. As long as I play well enough to beat the golf buds. Not trying to reduce my HC to zero nor qualify for the state am. But they sure do look nice. Sometimes its all about aesthetics. Look good, play good? Overhauled Apex II's, FCM 5.5, Permawraps, buffed and paint filled. Bagged and waiting for spring. One problem though, once one spends time playing blades, they make the "modern" irons (i20's) seem as ponderous as a set of GMAX. Live for the pured, forged, butta shot.

FWIW, I usually ride on dirt roads and two tracks. Can take a 15 mile ride and never see pavement. To many knucklehead drivers on the highways and byways. Makes me nervous.

Damn sideways pics this site posts on occasion.

I taught TP to ride a two wheeler in a bike like this one with a handle on the back. But the time he had realized I wasn't holding it any more he was already riding on two wheels, his didn't have the training wheels in it though. Worked great though :)

What kind of brass/copper wedge is that in the bag?? Looks like my old 90's title it's wedges but in brass :)

Hogan BeCu SI. My preferred SW. Gets moved between bags. Not conforming, but who gives a hoot.

That's cool, the sole looks identical to my old Pre Vokey Titleists lol, minus facing the other direction anyways haha.

Nice. I see the resemblance. Never have played Titliest/Vokey wedges much over the years. Acquired a Vokey 60* (don't even know the model) as part of a larger acquisition couple of years back. Nice wedge, can't hit it for s***. No longer carry a 60*. No confidence, no play.

Besides the Hogan (of which I have several), a go to wedge still remains a SE 675 TM SW, Rifle Spinner shaft. Have had it for years. Not much cadre around WRX, but its been a trustworthy club. Feels right, which is half the battle when it comes to good wedge play.

FWIW, not a practitioner of the multiple (4) wedge setup. Clutters my mind. Which one to hit? Simplified, learning to play different shots with a SW or PW. Especially so playing the older, classic iron sets. They seem to be more conducive to this. See, feel, execute. There was a thread in the Classic forum discussing wedge play. The majority seem to take the position, an old school approach, of learning to hit a variety of different shots with just one or two wedges. Become versatile. Since my GIR's are on the low side, get lots of practice with the short game. Last year, concentrating on improving chipping, pitch and run, etc., saw a rather dramatic improvement in my scoring average. Nothing profound here, but still a revelation. I call it my "old man's" game. Everyone knows the type. The older gentlemen that don't hit it very far, but always keep the ball in play. And are lights out with chipping and putting.

This may have been covered ad infinitum around here, still new so I'm not aware. Maybe I'm totally misinformed with this approach. Need to go to wedge school, take lessons, read books, visit the I & A forum (not). But.....it is what it is.

I've taken the same approach over the passed 2 seasons, went from a pw, 52, 56, 60 to a Pw, 52, 58. I found I rarely used the 56 and used the 60 way to much. So I dropped both and went to a 58. No thinking about club selection now, the 58 does most shots inside of 80y. Unless it's a Specialty shot of some sort that requires a low flight.

My big Peanut (soon to turn 6) is motoring on his new bike. My wife and I are committed to purchasing new wheels for the spring. I'm letting my son choose the bike once we narrow down the choices. I'm leaning toward a cruiser with a big arse seat.

Howdy there Scoster. Moving sucks. Seeing daylight yet?

Thanks for asking. We made some good progress last week on the barn. We filled a 20 ft. dump trailer with stuff for the dump and loaded an old utility trailer on the car hauler filled with scrap metal. As Stu prolly knows the price is very low and I got all of $60 for that and the pickup bed filled to the max.

And Stu, I didn't find one Scotty C to make it worth the work :( but we were happy to get rid of it all.

You're fine - ride'm if you got'm! I'll keep my two cents worth muzzled this time with a smile. .

LOL! I was wondering if you'd pick up on it...

Anyway just a friendly reminder Reasy old chap, but it's all good - you know that. There are some freaking idiotic cyclists out there and I'm the first to admit it.

Oh and whatever camp one is in, your post was a great read as always. There's nothing like reading a quality diatribe whilst curled up on the sofa, on a cold winter night, with a warm mug of cocoa in hand.

Fellahaeen - this one is is most definitely on both of us. Feel free to keep posting those bike pics.

Back in the day a buddy I played with had those woods. Very nice indeed. I can't remember what I hit. In a galaxy long ago.....

T-minus 20 hours ish until my buddy and I tee off for our 36 hole yearly match play season against each other haha. Silly I know haha but we decided to make a little season for ourselves against each other. We are deciding to kick it off with 36 holes tomorrow in Hilton head. Need a good start because he's a bit better of a player than I am and only gets more in the groove throughout the year. We have similar handicaps (only 3 strokes difference). Only reason is because he has two blow up holes a round that keeps him around 11-12. It's all for fun so we don't give anyone strokes just play straight up. Each round we do match play, stroke, and match play on the par 3s and par 5s. Side games on putts and sandies (mostly to give me a shot since I'm a bit better in both those categories). Should be a good day

Hope everyone is enjoying some decent weather now that the snow/rain seems to have passed for now.

Forever Changing at this point.......
