I think these are going to be pretty commercially available, maybe limited quantities but a lot of places will have them.  For anyone in the pinehurst area the golf shop at the resort advertised getting some.

I wear the higher ankle socks with them, do that and you will be fine as I had the same issue but only on the ankle that I tore my Achilles and the scar.

I felt the same way when I tried them on. Almost decided to flip them.  My friend convinced me to wear them and the toes open up completely after about 2 rounds.
