Most visible colored ball in rough?

Recommended Posts

As my eyes have aged, I'm having a more difficult time tracking my ball and finding it, even in the first cut of rough. I couldn't see the yellow Srixon Z-star any better than a white ball.

Any suggestions for a more visible color and model ball? Looking for something in between V1 and V1x in feel, either mid range or premium ball.

If you can't see a yellow Srixon.... you may need a dog.

My eyes suck too, the Srixons (for me) are the best combo of playability and visibility.

Good Luck in your quest.

I couldn't agree more. They also perform quite well. You won't find many performer golf balls done in various colours. Hope you -find- what you are looking for

I am a huge fan of the Volvik iS in orange but hear that the Vivid is actually brighter! I have never lost an orange ball in a spot that I thought I should have found it. I've lost white balls in areas that I have found the orange and yellow ones. I won't be playing anything but an orange or yellow Volvik. I just received 2 dozens of the Vibe and will be getting up a review as soon as the RBC Heritage is over.

The new Callaway TruVis Yellow and Black combination are going to be the best. The brilliant yellow against the black is actually very bright.

I've found that Orange does not contrast well against green grass.

Volvik Vivid without a doubt. Cool matte finish too. I'm gaming the green right now. The orange is the brightest ball I've ever seen. Think a hunters orange vest.

Depends on the season.

Summer when the grass is real deep green, a yellow ball is easiest. Cally chromesoft has the best yellow in my opinion.

Early spring or fall when the grass is brownish, a white ball is best

The course I usually play doesn't have the best weed control so ball color decisions are usually made by if the dandelions are yellow or white that day.

White and Pink are the easiest to spot for me.

I invested heavily in yellow balls and hated it after a while. I lost a lot of them, after watching the area they landed. They dissapear in rough.

Whatever is opposite the color wheel from green, so... Red, if not than orange. Yellows and blues would actually be the hardest to find... that's why I never really got why companies make yellow balls. I guess because they are easier to watch the flight, but good luck finding that sucker during the fall.

Unfortunately, ProV's don't come in red. So I would suggest either Chrome Soft soccer ball with the red patches, or simply take any ProV1 and use a red sharpie to add lots of red dots, lines, etc.

Color is a factor, but reflectivity can sometimes be even more important depending on the sun and lighting angles. I've had glossy yellow balls (Chromesoft, Z-stars) that simply disappeared in the rough because the glare of the ball was nearly identically matched by the glare off the grass. In these conditions, those yellow balls were basically camouflaged. Obviously this is also dependent on grass type - some have glossier blades than others. All glossy balls will suffer from this effect depending on the light. I play in sunny Colorado, so this is a real issue at times. Cloudier conditions will minimize this.

Matte balls suffer less from this and I've had really good luck seeing matte orange and matte pink. To me those two colors are the most visible in the widest range of conditions. But, I've not found a matte orange or pink ball that performs as well as a typical glossy white, urethane ball. So that's what I play most of the time.

Yellow balls are even harder to find if you wear brownish, amber or yellow tinted sunglasses.

(My impressions have been confirmed both by my son who has excellent teenager's vision as well as one of my playing partners who has notoriously good "pro baseball player" eyes - this guy seems to find and track balls that nobody else does.)
