Anybody ever play Berkshire Valley? Looking maybe to play there Sat instead of Flanders. Golfnow showing no times til about 3pm though.. not sure if it's because the course reserves those times for leagues or what.
No leagues this early, let alone on a Saturday. Play there all the time. First 4 holes are on the side of the mountain, otherwise it plays pretty fair.

Ballyowen has a nice grass range. But that's a hike just to hit balls from Roxbury.

No question. I've had a hand injury and I'm a little worried about hitting off of mats, but F it, I've got to at least hit balls if I cannot carve out time to actually play!

hope the hand feels better -- i had a nagging hand issue last year two. i strained the muscles in my right hand between my thumb and pointer finger (the web). wouldn't wish it on anyone - especially a golfer.

Thank you.

Injured right pinky finger of all things when I slipped on the ice and went down hard in front of my house in January. Never got it looked at which was probably a mistake. It's still not right, but it is slowly getting better and I've got the fever to get my clubs back in my hands again.

Weird. Guess I'll have to call and see if they have times. I'm probably heading their early so I have the rest of the day with the familia. You're welcome to join if you're around town.

Question for everyone -- if I can't fit a round in Friday or Saturday, I at least want to start shaking the rust off and hit some balls. Any recommendations for ranges where I can hit off of grass? I'm in Roxbury and everything right in my area is mats only.

Ain't no grass ranges this time of year. What I would recommend, and it is actually quite fun, is take a shag bag to a local park or athletic field. Depending on your sight lines, you can hit up to 5i. Give yourself preferred lies obviously. And, you're gonna lose some balls in the fur...

i don't know any DECENT place - there's farmview or whatever in hackettstown but that place is a dump.

depending on if you'll travel, and if the grass range is open -- there's architects, heron glen or neshanic. not sure outside of that in northern NJ you can find one unless you're at a private club.

Hey now be nice..I live in Hackettstown

But you're right about the grass tees. It's like hitting it out of rough or hard pan. They simply don't have the right mowers to cut it properly.

lol i lived in hackettstown for 3 years -- i would drive anywhere to hit balls other than farmview

sorry, didn't mean to be mean lol

Ok fine..lol

Hate the balls there too. They are like whiffle balls. Get out to about 130 and just nose dive.

I may be playing a quick 9 at Galopping Hill Friday afternoon if anybody is interested, and also I will probably play 18 Saturday at Flanders as well.

I'm playing Friday afternoon most likely. Could be Crystal Springs, could be locally here at Minebrook.

I may opt for Minebrook, simoly because Crystal Springs as a first round of the year is just asking for a beating.

If you play crystal, what time are you thinking? Never played minebrook before, wheres this?

I played the little 9 hole course at crystal when we had that warm stint, before the 2 big snow storms, it was a lot of fun.

I'm playing Friday at 2:30 at Minebrook in Hackettstown. I didn't want to make Crystal Springs my 1st round.

Perhaps next week if the weather cooperates.

Just wrapped up first 18 holes of 2018.

I am glad I did not do anything more ambitious than $25 at Minebrook.

That was ugly. Hit a number of solid shots but around the greens........man do I have some things to work on.

But hey, feels damn good to have the clubs out of the closet.

Teeing off at 2:30 after work for the first round of the year. Can't wait. I was hitting it beautifully on the range yesterday evening. Putting and chipping though... could be ugly.

yeah, it does take awhile for the touch around the greens to come back... hopefully not too ugly

Shot 88 (as a 16 for the first round in 5 months, not bad.).

36 putts and thinned numerous chips. It went as exactly as I thought it would.

I was a Minebrook too yesterday. Course was in better shape than I thought it be.

Wonder if our paths crossed? I went off at 2:30

Teed off at 9:30 so not yesterday. But -- I'd dig playing with anyone in here if schedules permit, let's do it.

I'd never played Minebrook. Not half bad for a whopping $25! The greens were much better than I expected. The tee boxes were s***, but for $25, no complaints.

Beat up the academy/learning course (back tees) at galloping after fitting all day - shot 31, hit 8/9 GIR, just 2 fairways but drove the 352y par 4 third hole. 2 birds, 7 pars. 16 putts.

Tee boxes, esp on the back, have been bad because they never cut the branches of the trees to give the grass air to grow. In fact, it was so bad a few years ago, the par 3 14th had a driving range mat on the tee box.

If I do play Minebrook, it's usually because I was able to snag a 2:20 teetime for $25 on a hot deal from Golfnow. Otherwise it's like 35-49$ to play on a weekend.

I think pinch brook does too. Not exactly my favorite course in the area tho.

Pinch Brook is a weird course. Par 65 barely 5,000 yards and God forbid you even breathe the words "executive course" to people there. You maybe shot on th spot.

for some reason...i find it harder than either of the flanders courses. maybe its the type of grass they use. pace of play is also slow as hell...spent almost 6 hours for a round there...on a weekday afternoon!
