Had a training in South Jersey today and was hoping weather would hold off so I could play twilight at blue heron or something.. no luck on that unfortunately as the rain is starting :mad:

But the access to high end clubs is the real value..

Played the West Course yesterday and it was truly just an awesome day. The course was everything I expected and more, and the members/culture is very old-school/by the book. There is just so much history inside the clubhouse. I found the course to be really fair and not overly punishing for your bad shots. Highlights of the day for me were opening up with 4 straight pars and grabbing a birdie on the par 5 9th after getting on the green in 2. If any of you get the opportunity to go out and play the course I would not pass it up.

Yes. Last few years I've been doing it. Played The Ridge @ Backbrook and Roxiticus already this spring, I've signed up for Black Oak in August. Rich Kennedy does a good job running the tournaments and the pace of play is actually pretty good for double tees/shotgun start...

Yes. Last few years I've been doing it. Played The Ridge @ Backbrook and Roxiticus already this spring, I've signed up for Black Oak in August. Rich Kennedy does a good job running the tournaments and the pace of play is actually pretty good for double tees/shotgun start...

Black Oak is a nice layout.

 

Some of the greens are not in good shape. Patches of missing grass when I played it on 6/18 for a work outing.

 

Considering what they want for membership, I was very surprised.

Everyone talking about these nice clubs and Im just happy to hack around the Rutgers course.... :wacko: They did fix up some tee boxes and bunkers recently and it looks good! If anyone wants to play there give me a shout, I work on campus!

Municipal and township courses for me too! And if I get lucky something on golfnow/teeoff haha

I played Rutgers on the 4th and the prior 2 Sundays, Get there ~ 3:30 and usually get out early for twilight rate of $24. The course has been empty at that time so you can take your time and play a couple of balls and practice or try to hook up with someone. Quick rounds and an nice course with some interesting holes.

Rutgers definitely makes the most of the space they have with the course. Most holes have at least some elevation, dog leg or water in play to keep them interesting. I will probably be playing there tomorrow after work.

Just tossing this out there:

 

I have one free round for me and 3 other guys at Beaver Brook in Annandale NJ between now and August 16. Likely play dates would be July 20/21, July 27/28, August 3/4 or August 10/11. PM me if interested. First 3 PM's get priority and if you cancel it must be 72 hours in advance so I can notify next on the list. I will firm up the date once I get player availability.

 

For anybody who hasn't played there and wants a brief summary of the course:

 

4 very short par 3's, pretty easy birdie/par chances. 3 par 5's, also fairly easy to score. 1 monster par 4, 1 very short driveable par 4, then the rest are standard to short-ish par 4's, have dog leg of some kind. Course does not not require power, must be extremely accurate with tee shots as you really need to be in a good position for your approach on many of the par 4's. Only a few hazards to watch out for, and OB comes into play on a few holes. Greens not too complex. Avoid bunkers as they are hard pan/clay.

I haven't played Beaver Brook in a few years, but holes 1, 2, 17, & 18 used to all be par 5s. Did they shorten one to a par 4 or am i mistaken?

I could have sworn the yardage sign next to the tee box says 4/5 and not just 5. I played it as a par 4 last time I was there, maybe I was wrong, haha.
