We are now in full Christmas mode, son is on holiday, last shopping trip yesterday.

 

Lunch today two home made pizzas, fresh picked tomatoes and a rocket salad. To top it of a really good bottle of red. 
 

In the background baskets of very large mangoes, we are now in full mango season and locally they are world beaters, sweet and tender. Also in the baskets, peaches and avocados.

 

It will only get better from here until we celebrate the new year and hopefully a new begining.

We have a farmers store near to where we live, they sell boxes of slightly marked mangos very cheap. Normally a small mango can cost up to $3.50 each but these hold between 10/20 very large mangos for $20. We usually purchase two boxes a week and have no problem disposing of them. One large mango makes a perfect breakfast.

The thing that hurts most looking at this pic isn't the amazing looking pizzas or the perfect fresh fruit...... it's that darn sun shinning in through the window.

Supposed to get cold here for Christmas.  A low of -10°C they say.  That's about as cold as it gets in these parts.  Fortunately it doesn't stay that way for long.

 

Our grass is still lush and green, but the snow we had last week finally did in the last of the roses that were hanging on.  The hard herbs are still usable, but the parsley has finally surrendered for the season.  It will be strange having to actually buy herbs for the turkey.

 

DW is sending me out to do the Christmas grocery shop this morning.  She doesn't want me under foot while she's baking.  We're going to do the rounds delivering gifts before the lockdown hits over the next couple of days.  Then we get to live out our own version of On Golden Pond over the course of the next month with the only contact to the outside world being the mail man... 🙄  I'm sure it will be complete with lots of cursing and the terms of endearment Old Woman and Old Pooh! 😁

Actually got all ours done on Sunday together, after the drama of playing/not playing we decided to just go out and finishing the shopping and have a day together that didn't involve staying within our property. 

 

I'm not trusted to go alone as I would get the wrong thing and/or only stuff I want.... 🙄

Well lads, as you may have guessed I got it wrong...

 

I was texting her about the unsliced white sandwich bread she wanted (for stuffing) and was told to forget about it.  But, when I came home with the wrong brand of butter the shite hit the fan!  Now, I've known about this particular boycott as it has been in place for probably 30 years.  Has it occurred to her that maybe the quality of that butter has changed some over the years, perhaps for the better, especially when that was the only brand of sweet butter that the store I was at had on hand?  No of course not.  Don't argue with me was the response!  She is now shopping for bread and butter...🤨

When I get sent to the store for something in particular Cobi shows me the empty box or wrapper

or whatever and I take a pic of it with my phone. When I get to the proper section in the store, my

phone comes out, the pic is brought up and I get EXACTLY what I see in the pic. 

 

If what she wants is not there, I take a pic of what is there and send it to her and she tells me which

one to get or to just skip it for now and wait til the one she wants is back in stock.

 

Works every time and I wholeheartedly recommend this method to anyone wanting to avoid the

events that get set in motion when coming home with the wrong things.🙃

This morning I was allowed to go out shopping ......ON MY OWN........

 

Two stores and the pharmacy, I completed all the tasks, purchased the correct items and stayed within budget.

 

Arrived back home and received a gold star, ⭐️,first one ever.

 

There is hope for me yet.🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Lunch today, continuation of the lets put on weight Christmas feasting.

 

This is called dirty rice. Boiled rice with several spices, peas, black beans, roast pimento, crushed tinned tomatoes, crispy chorizo and heaps of wood smoked salmon. Top it off with a spoon of sour cream and it went down very well.

Feeling the slightest bit of schadenfreude this morning...

 

The shortbread didn't turn out.  Worst batch she ever made she claims.  She's probably right on that account.  Probably not a good idea to suggest that it may have turned out better if she used the butter that I bought...  😈

Starting the distribution of gifts this afternoon to BIL and SIL's for a firepit visit.  BIL set up a 32" tractor rim as a makeshift firepit and got the necessary permit for open fire for cooking/warmth.  I'll bet a lot of those permits were purchased this fall/winter -- I guess I can say winter cause it's official now!

 

AS long as DW doesn't mind parking on the street I'm thinking about setting up an impromptu lounge in the garage.  WE have a nice set of folding plastic deck chairs.  Most of the other supplies we already have put away in our tailgating gear.  Just need to buy a propane heater and we'd be good to go.  Maybe i can get one secondhand from a restaurant that's closing? 🤔

Christmas eve over here, every thing almost ready for tomorrow. I am hoping for a much better year in 2021 as I would think are all ofyou. 
 

The one factor for me during the isolation was being able to contact a group of posters I have come to think of as good friends, the Grille has for me been a touch of sanity, thats if we could ever call Grillers sane😳.

 

The understanding that exists in here is quite unique, everyone is treated with respect. Thank you friends for making a terrible year more acceptable.

 

All of you have a very merry Christmas and a new year that will be filled with hope and love.

DW is upstairs making dog biscuits whilst singing Christmas carols.  She's doing her best to get us in the spirit.  I'm just trying to hide...😉

 

Read an article that the premier has announced that all the ski hills in the province are to be closed during the lockdown.  Sure caught to operators off-guard.  Since many of these facilities also operate golf courses during the summer months, you can begin to understand how this came right out of the blue!

 

Our local wing joint and sports bar is the next to announce that they are done.  Said they can't justify staying open just for takeout.  I'm surprised by this as they were hopping busy all spring and summer.  I fear that the eateries are going to just start falling like flies now.

On a more positive note I want to wish all of the Grillers a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!  To echo @tolmij comments, this place keeps me sane at times when things are looking particularly bleak.

 

We had an outdoor visit with BIL and SIL yesterday at their place around their new firepit.  It was 12°C and on the way home I was thinking what a lovely afternoon it would have been for 9 holes of golf.  Alas, nothing is open, but you certainly can't blame the weather at this point.  This may well have proven out to be the winter that you could play at least once every month.  We'll see what the new year brings for us.  It's always darkest before the dawn...
