In an attempt (admittedly quite pathetic) to balance out any “flex” posts I make, I want to say it’s currently 51° and drizzling here. Obviously I will be suing someone as the weather is clearly the only reason I live here and this is not what I was “promised”! btw. Is it B Gates or E Musk who controls the weather? I can’t keep up.

And then the new will be old again and found/claimed to cause something horrible and the suits will go on and on in the never ending cycle of life in this "greatest nation on God's green earth"

Saban deciding to retire doesn't surprise me in the least.  Speculated that this season may very well be his last.  Natty or not.  He has nothing to prove.  Arguably the greatest CFB HC of all time.  In the rapidly changing, anarchistic world of high level collegiate athletics, time to walk away and say that's enough.  Dabo time?

Actually, I was referring to a news aggregation site I frequent for current event headlines and stories. Freerepublic.com. The post by Solo about plastics in our water and food supplies hit my news feed and I was innocently asking if got it from Free Republic. Those who are active on that forum refer to themselves as freepers just as those here use wrx’ers. No malice intended.

Allow me to respond since it was my word. At best it's an inartful term for this so perhaps I should expand the thought and discard the term. These statistics lack context and even the best of studies come up with raised arms about it.

 

If you say for every 200lbs of food & water consumed there's a .5 ounce of garbage, microplastic  or chemical involved, how much passes through or gets excreted? Probably a great portion, since a good portion of food does too. Of the remaining how much is inert or what it's affect? Dunno is best answer right now. I have a plastic tube running from head  to stomach, why am I not sick from it?

 

I'm a machinist, cancer studies reveal they have lower cancer rates than general population. Knowing what I know truly quite surprised by that. In fact in my world I know more early cancer sufferers  who worked on office side than on production side of my industry. A lot more too.

 

Played golf with a guy in the 90's, he was a Trooper, ran down to ground zero and volunteered on the recovery. He came down with rare liver cancer 15 years later. Do I connect that dot? Yeah, all of us did. Know a gal never smoked, lost to lung cancer at 50, wtf. My Mom's man, healthy as a horse, clean living but he rolled asphalt for years on end. Do I believe the exposure to those fumes gave him Leukaemia? Yup. My BIL, 10%  body fat, marathoner, body of 40, pancreatic cancer at 68, one of 2% to survive. Another wtf. Point is the randomness is quite remarkable and it confounds experts too.

 

There's strong corollary of chemicals altering the testosterone & estrogen levels of all creatures.. 5G has issues. There's microplastics, factory food and VOC's everywhere but we  roll on. There's wisdom but there's an opaque foggy picture, the stats reveal but not near enough. We need to know more, do more but be mindful of their context, scale & scope. Conflation doesn't help here. Not suggesting anyone did that but as creatures we connect dots, that's how we operate.

 

I read something recently, a guy postulated that mankind is mad insane because it introduced lead into the ecosystem. My 1st thought was man was as nuts before lead as he is now. My 2nd thought was chimpanzees wage war with each other and kill their own. Baboons behave a lot like humans in their tribal structure. No lead there, just saying. Sometimes the answer is we just don't know enough so skeptical caution in all directions is warranted.

I hear ya. My uncle, 30 years ago, told me how dangerous my wood cutting board was vs his new shiny plastic one. Chock one up for the petro industry. They found their convert. I reminded him that I’d been using that board for over 5 years with every type of meat and vegetable imaginable and never got sick. 
 

Who gonna believe? The petro industry or ur own experiences. That’s about as simple as a thought process gets.

Several clinical studies do show prisoners incarcerated for violent crimes have a higher blood-lead concentration than the general population. So, there is that.

Sometimes our anecdotal evidence doesn’t match the broader statistics. There is so much to learn still about our chemistry. I support research that helps us know more that is not colored by lobbying, but sometimes all we have are statistics and not finite and specific answers.

All my folks used a wooden cutting board for years and we still do. Actually my wife uses my Grannie's wooden rolling pin to roll biscuit dough. Whatever works---- We all gotta die some day so I do not sweat the details of what ifs

- Alabama would be crazy not to pursue him.

- Dabo would be crazy not to consider it.

 

From there, I cannot answer, other than to say I damn sure hope he stays, as I want to see him retire at Clemson.

Believe me, I can relate to being addicted to the juice of competition.  But I also understand us fans / alumni / boosters / etc. can tend to get real selfish about this too.  Saban is over 70.  On what planet do I want to be working at 75?  No way, no how, absolutely not!  Should fans demand that he keep coaching?  Nope.

 

That guy is an absolute titan of the game, and I'm so glad I got to see my Tigers go up against his squad so many times.

 

I will be selfish about Dabo.  He could take the Bama job.  I will be thoroughly depressed but not totally shocked if he does.

‘Marky’ Mark Wahlberg at our local Costco today to sign bottles of his tequila. Apparently people started lining up at 2 am! What’s funny is he was late and told ppl he didn’t have time to sign! 😜 But did take pics w/ppl. So time for pics, but not to sign… 🤔 okay. (Notice Sharpies in his hand) This is a friend’s husband in the pic. Happy to report I didn’t go!
